Deloitte appointed administrators to HMV Group plc, HMV Music Ltd, HMV UK Ltd and Fopp Entertainments Ltd

Nick Edwards, Rob Harding and Neville Kahn of Deloitte, the business advisory firm, have today been appointed Joint Administrators to HMV’s UK retail business, the high street retailer of filmed entertainment, games, music and portable digital technology products.

HMV, which is headquartered in London, operates out of 223 stores in high streets and shopping centres across the UK, and has 4,123 employees.

Nick Edwards, Joint Administrator and restructuring services partner at Deloitte, commented: “HMV is an iconic retailer and continues to be a very popular brand, but as we have seen with many high street retailers, the market is changing rapidly and conditions are currently very tough.

“Following our appointment, we are working closely with management and staff to stabilise the business in order to continue trading whilst actively seeking a purchaser for the business and assets. We appreciate the cooperation and support from the staff, customers, suppliers and landlords at what is clearly a difficult time.”

Certain HMV Group plc subsidiaries including HMV Guernsey Ltd, HMV Hong Kong Ltd, HMV Ireland Ltd, HMV Singapore Ltd and 7Digital Group remain outside of an insolvency process.

Website now suspended with a big administration notice placed on it.

So what happens to orders placed before this notice as this has only gone up in the past hour and was still trading until then??

  • Whoever bought the gift card was mad, HMV was a bad choice anyway as they're very expensive. But it is a shame that they're (probably) going.

If I received one for Christmas, I would spend it as soon as I could as one of my friends did - it was pretty obvious that they were going soon and there has even been news of HMV's problems.

If you didn't see any of those hints - I feel sorry for you. :( Just hope for the best or try a chargeback.

I count myself lucky, i purchased 2 dvds about 3 days ago, only cheap ones but i had my dispatch email yesterday. I won't hold my breath until they arrive, if they don't then they don't but i'm sure they will. I feel really sorry for the staff and people with vouchers, my brother had hmv points and used those up last week. I'd hold out as i'm sure they'd be able to allow them to be used again as others have said :) fingers crossed for everyone!

The UK stores are still open; so far only the IE stores have closed.

There are some bargains to be had but not much really, Toy Story 1-3 bluray box set is £9.00, Matrix trilogy bluray box set is £7.50, lots of single film DVDs are £2.25, double film DVDs are £4.50 and triple packs £6.00 each. If you buy anything, be mindful that they aren't allowing refunds or returns.

It's £7.50 (which is £10.00 less 25% for the blue X sticker) but this is really only 50p cheaper than the best recent online price of £8.00 last month.
