As a student I worked in HMV so I'm not surprised that they've gone. I was an Xmas temp but left after two weeks as they had failed to pay me and the manager couldn't care less. The customer service standard was awful too - something that was repeated in every HMV store I've ever been in. Add to the extortionate prices and its easy to see why the public refused to shop there.
While I do feel sorry for the staff, I do wonder if this will convince them (and the management of all companies) that customer service is king and by failing to provide excellent service, you're effectively signing your own death warrant.0 -

Whilst your experience may be true I don't think this has anything to do with why HMV have gone into administration. My sister worked for Jessops who's motto was "advice for life" all staff were trained to give customers advice about the type of equipment they were looking for only to watch them trundle off to buy it online at a cheaper price once they knew what they should buy.
Suggesting any of these companies went into administration due to poor customer service is rubbing salt in the wounds of those who have just lost their jobs.
It is a sad reality that most people these days prefer to shop online than in an actual bricks and mortar shop.
I have to say me included. We are after all in a recession. So not only is it more convenient to buy online but usually cheaper too.
I feel terrible for all these people who have lost jobs in the retail sector. It must be a very worrying time for all concerned.0 -
Went to HMV this morning to spend my son's gift cards he had for Xmas. Was going to get Itunes or microsoft points, and was told gift cards would not be accepted. I was so cross. Someone spent money buying those for him and they wont be honoured. Ws given HMV customer service number but have had no joy getting through. I am livid.:mad::mad:0

That is the first thing the administrators do. You may find they let you use them again once they've worked out what is owed to who. They did this at comet.0 -

Please don't ring them at this time - there is nothing they can do to help you.
If anyone does have to ring customer service, please remember these people are losing their jobs - they will be down a great deal more than a gift voucher.

Please remember to try and not to take your gift card and no returns woes out on the staff instore at HMV, its not their fault they can't accept them and they are faced with the possibilty that they could be losing their jobs!0

I would not dream of taking out on the store staff, and I actually said to him that I felt sorry for him. He then promptly said he didn't care as he was leaving next week to go to another job anyway.
He saw another side of me then as I said perhaps he ought to care for the customers if he wasn't thinking of himself to which he just shrugged. Sorry but that was like a red rag to a bull.0
