Does the colour make any difference?

The Blue ones used to be the old Solo, the purple ones were Visa Debit (still are) and cheque guarantee cards.

Do you really need to pay £17 p.m. to get a full Visa at Natwest?

Nope. The benefits are quite good, only if you can make use of them all though

I've just down graded my Advantage Gold to a normal Select account (no monthly fee) as I was only using the Mobile Phone insurance and can get it cheaper than £12.95 per month.

their new prices are a complete rip-off IMO.

No you can get one on a select account.

I will also be shocked if the OP actually gets one.

  • I was told by natwest twice on the phone that there policy has changed and they only give the purple debit card out on the fee paying accounts. I was also told that there blue one is a full debit card 4 times so i dont really think they know what there doing lol

Someone was on here the other month telling us how a natwest employee didn't know they hand out different colour cards.

Honestly credit ratings debit cards etc topics are non existent when bank employee's talk about them as they haven't got the foggiest what they're on about pretty much like Experian staff who works for the company they also make it up when they go along.

I'd disagree with their Blue card being a full debit card. You can't use the blue card on pay@pump petrol stations, but you can use the purple one (I have both).

Granted I opened my account in 2005, but at the time it wasn't fee paying and I was issued with a purple card and a cheque book.

I opened a basic account a year or so ago to put my monthly spending money into, and that came with a Blue card.

I've wondered about the Blue vs. Purple card. I have a blue card, and I assumed it was because they saw me as a bit of a liability, but it has worked fine at international airports (which took a "token" payment, then followed with the real amount later, a la pay@pump), and train station ticket machines.

    Have I just been lucky?

The blue cards can't accept pre-authorisation, hence why they don't work at pay@pump petrol stations.
