Claiming loss from Royal Mail - New forms
Comments

I have just sent in my first ever claim for a lost item. Now im begining to wonder if there is any chance of me getting anything back.
I enclosed the copy of the paypal payment, also a copy of the customers ebay invoice showing the final price (to my idea something is valued at whatever you can get for it), and of course proof of posting.
Hope this is right but shall have to just wait and see I suppose.0 -

No, I don't think so. You buy something for 5 and sell it for 10. The buyer pays you 10 pounds which you have to refund so your loss is the original 5 pounds. Most carriers will only pay the 5 pounds and not your lost profit. I suppose that this is based on the fact that most sellers can just send a replacement item.
Obviously this often doesn't apply to lots of ebay auctions where things are one offs. Have people successfully claimed the full sale price from carriers?0 -
Have just tried to find the form on line (as Soolin mentioned in an earlier post) on the royal mail site, but can't seem to find it.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?
I have been lucky and only had a couple of lost parcels, - using the old form I was paid in full on both! So would like to keep using it while it's available......0 -

Today I have received a letter from RM, returning all my paperwork, and asking for 'proof of the item's content/s value or an invoice for the lost or damaged item, a cash withdrawal slip or bank statement.'
I telephone Plymouth and explained that I had the $ already, left over from a holiday. I now have to write back explaining this, and apparently, RM will then send me an idemnity to sign, confirming this. The guy went on to say that if they subsequently find out I was not telling the truth, they would prosecute me. I responded by saying, that if I was going to commit fraud, it would have to be for a lot more than $50!0 -

I've often wondered how they get senders to prove the value of cash or vouchers sent in the post for insurance purposes. All special delivery says is that it is th eonly way to send cash/vouchers etc, yet it doesn't suggest that any sort of record be kept of how much was sent.
Due to a dire family emergency a while ago we had to send dollars across country, we had no receipt for those dollars as they werem't mine they had been left in a safe place by a visitor and forgotten. Luckily the cash arrived safely, but I would have had no way at all of proving how much cash was in my special delivery envelope.

I was once asked at the counter to verify the amount of cash being sent by a customer. Only once in thousands of SD's sent!
In my old work nothing was left to chance and everything was countersigned by somebody else.

Do you always have to send proof of cost when claiming now?
I bought a dvd from amazon.com in $. I posted this to a friend 1 month ago but it got lost. Will they accept the $ receipt & what exchange rate will they use since now the dvd is worth a lot less than when I bought it at the end of March as the $ has fallen?!0 -
Most of the stuff I sell on ebay is secondhand. Its value (and I would apply this principle to other eBay items too) is the price the customer paid for it. I haven't tried claiming with the new forms yet but I'm just about to, and if RM want an argument I'll give them one.0
