Claiming loss from Royal Mail - New forms

As many people will know by now Royal Mail changed there claim forms to account for ebay losses. The old way you could just send a print out of the item that got lost to prove its value and that would be enough. Thats not the case anymore, RM want Paypal receipts plus proof of value of the item. This makes it much harder to make a successful claim as I have found out.
I just don't understand what they want, ok for example the item that got lost cost the ebay buyer £21.99 + P&P so you sent Royal Mail a print out of that Paypal receipt. BUT they also want proof of value so obviously its not £21.99 because you would not make any profit. So say you send the proof of value in at say £15, do we think RM are really going to pay out £21.99?
Its just all confusing to me & I feel now that if anything goes lost I won't get my compensation.

Plus, if you sell something seemingly worthless, but someone has paid say £15 for, how the hell do you prove to RM that it was 'worth' that much?"I have enough money to last me the rest of my life, unless I buy something."0

I've not seen these new forms yet, but proof of value is surely what a buyer has paid as they wouldn't buy items at a higher price than their value? If you're expectations of getting a low payout of RM are held by most and accepted, no wonder they try it on and only refund people a token amount or try fob them off with a book of stamps!
If you do have any problems with them paying out, always take it up with Postwatch, as they will make sure you get dealt with properly.
Recently made a claim for the loss of an order of 4 penny books from amazon, they only sent a book of stamps, I complained to postwatch who stated I did have a valid case for requesting a full refund and within a month I got a full refund and a letter of apology from RM.Do You Twitter?

RM know that your paypal payment includes your postage cost, and they won't want to pay that.
Last I heard, ebay invoices were acceptable as proof of value. My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
So what exactly is proof of value???

i.e Anya Hindmarsh bags. Bought for £5 (as would be stated on the Sainsbury receipt), but selling on Ebay for £50-£250.
Would RM say you only get a fiver if your parcel goes AWOL????
Edit....answered above as I was typing

The online forms haven't changed though. I still do it all online, print it out , attach my ebay invoice (or paypal one, they both show the same) and my COP and send it off.
I've only got one outstanding now, so I'll see if that turns up with no hassle, although the previous 2 I sent in were apparently lost in the post :eek:I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I had a problem with Royal Mail a couple of years ago. I sold an item on ebay for £27, which cost me £2 (remember the black and white bands). Anyway, I completed the form, attached the cod and paypal information and sat back and waited. When they only wanted to pay me £2, because in their opinion that was all the item was worth, I went to the Ombudsman. I said, if I paid £50 for an item, and only sold it for £10, but had the receipt, would they then pay me £50?
In the end, with the assistance of the Ombudsman, I did get fully reimbursed.
I have to put in a claim for $ which have gone missing, but sent insured. I wonder how they are going to treat this claim.0 -
I've always been surprised that the PO pay out the full selling value. When you claim with most carriers they ask to see a copy of your purchase invoice and give you what you paid for the item. Their argument is that the insurance is to cover your loss. If you bought something for 5 pounds and sold it at 10 you have only lost the 5 pounds you paid originally if it goes missing. They will not pay for the profit you could have made on the sale. They do credit the carriage cost (unlike the PO).0

Except that when an item goes missing you need to refund the buyer. So you've lost whatever the buyer paid, regardless of what the item originally cost.0 -
Royal Mail have an ebay department in Plymouth. I call them and give them all the details over the phone. I also scan my cop and reciept and email it to them. I give them the item number and any other information that they need.
It makes claiming much easier and also it means that the cop can't get lost on route to RM.
