For all the "me's" & "I"s in the forum here is another passport fact - 83% of the population has at least one passport.
    http://www.ons.gov.uk/ons/dcp171778_290685.pdf

To all those who think they "don't" use a passport or "need" a passport even though they got one. It does not matter, and it is highly irrelavant to the context of discussion here.

So if it's highly irrelevant to the context of the discussion why did you bother to point out that 83% of the population have a passport? :rotfl:

I believe you'll find it was this poster who said passports were an essential part of life.....

We use passports as photo id and I also needed one for my interview and again to be crb checked for my job.... They are an essential part of life.

Why ? ...Simple. This website is all about coning people those who "apply" for a passport, not using it.

Who on earth with even a modicum of common sense would apply for a passport if they didn't want to use one?

And you might say it is a 'con' but the inescapable fact is these companies are operating legally.

I think most people posting on here agree that it's not morally or ethically right - but that doesn't cut it in law.

You may think that's a 'boring and tired looking debate' but you can't get away from that fact.
    Welcome to the real world.
  • Hpuse - You only seem to reply to certain parts of peoples posts!

Third time lucky! Have you or will you be complaining to your local MP and the Office of Fair Trading about these sites?

powerful_Rogue - I too have "powers" vested in me to remain silent to certain posts/questions which I think doesn't deserve a response/reply or answer. :D

Actually, powerful rogue, he means 'it's too hard to refute the points you make'.

The powers vested in me make it possible for me to interpret that as:

"No I will not be complaining to my local MP and the Office of Fair Trading about these sites".

Meaningless off topic postings still keeps the thread' "heart beat" on.
Keep them coming, and don't forget to compliment with same thanks; hahaha:D

What percentage of the population have used the internet to renew or apply for a passport gone to one of these sites & read things and used the free option?
  • from publicly available sources the soul director of IQ Channels Ltd is Geoffrey Laffoley-Lane.

I previously posted press articles that show Mr Laffoley-Lane doesn't appear to have much regard for Regulatory Laws (Regulations) that were intended to protect and prevent the public from being ripped off.

Hopefully none of the above breaks MSE forum 'Copyright / Personal details' rules

The ad must not appear again in its current form. We referred the matter to CAP's Compliance team."

That very much sounds like it's talking about adverts for the site probably Google or Yahoo paid ads. Otherwise it means nothing is wrong with the site itself.

The ads must not appear again in their current form. We told Passport-UK to clearly communicate the nature of their service and the fact that the fee for their service did not include the fee levied by HMPO for a Passport, in their marketing communications. In addition, we told them to ensure they did not misleadingly imply that they were the official HMPO.

May be similar to the EHIC websites that were being closed down back in 2010.

All that will happen is that Passport-UK will change their website to make it clear that they are not the official website.
    And guess what?

People will still use these websites because they don't read (or understand - for Hpuse's benefit :D) before using their credit cards.

As Coopdivi points out, passports-UK website is (currently) different to UK-Passport.net:

Passports-uk.co.uk is a deliberately misleading website trying to give the impression that it is an official site. The disclaimer that you quote part of is at the bottom of the home page in tiny print, far smaller than any of the other font sizes used on that page.

Uk-passport.net, which is what the thread was originally about, are very upfront about the type of service they are offering. On their home page the disclaimer is in the same size font as most of the rest of the page. They repeat the gist of this disclaimer at the bottom of the page. In a box they say they charge £72.50 but with IPS there's no charge for their service. They even provide a hyperlink to the Post Office's own website.

Uk-passport.net are very explicit about what they offer and are not being misleading in any way whatsoever, in my opinion. They should be congratulated not castigated.

but people still use UK-Passport.net 'by mistake' believing it to be the official website.
