Currently I have a contract with 3, but considering changing it to some other provider.

I hate the way 3 charges you for SMS delivery receipts, could you please share whether you provider does the same?

Let me keep a summary:
  • ASDA Mobile - FREE
  • EE - 1.7 p
  • giffgaff - FREE BUT DIFFICULT*
  • O2 - FREE BUT DIFFICULT*
  • Orange - 1.7 p
  • Talkmobile - FREE
  • Tesco Mobile - FREE BUT DIFFICULT*
  • Three - 1 p
  • T-Mobile - FREE
  • Virgin - FREE
  • Vodafone - FREE

* You can't configure to receive delivery receipt messages automatically but rather have to prefix each text with special code

I could be wrong..but I think that all the main suppliers do now.
    Orange/TMob do, as does O2...
and thinking back when I had a VF contract...I'm pretty sure that they charged too.

It looks like GiffGaff doesn't charge for delivery receipts...

I've had contracts with Vodafone, O2, Orange, T-Mobile and Talkmobile. Only Orange have ever charged for delivery reports (so with them I switch that option off on the phone I'm using). If that's changed, it must be VERY recent.

Only Three and Orange (Pay Monthly only) charge 1p for delivery reports. All other networks (T-Mobile, EE, O2, Tesco, Asda, Vodafone, Orange PAYG, Virgin etc) do not charge.
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂

You might want to correct the OP, no-one charges 0.01p (or did you mean £0.01?).
