12.1.13 to 21.1.13, is several weeks in your world?

    Fair enough. :rotfl:

It was like, uh, the 6th of Jan that the OP started this thread.

That's like, uh, 2 weeks and 2 days ago.

So, uh, yah, it's like, nearly 3 weeks ago.

And yah, 3 year olds should be playing with real snowballs, not aiming snowballs at a screen.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

I would deffo go with a ds, we bought a 3ds for our dd when she was 3 ( as it was the best deal at the time) turned of the 3d part well put a code on so she can only use it in 2d, and she will sit in the back of the car playing peppa pig, or like people say lego, she loves lego batman, nintendogs, and there are a few more but they are her faves at the moment, she also likes to take pics on it although the camera is a bit naff, and she loves to build a mii she has done one for most of the family.
  • I am sorry but it seems that these were bought as electronic baby sitters, so that there could be minimal parental intervention.

I would have seen this as an opportunity to spend 5 hours quality time with my children and not want to fob them off with gadgets to keep them quiet

(and yes before you ask I have done the Heathrow to Jburg many times with a 4 year old so I know what travelling with kids is like)

You mean I forgot the new law about only posting on threads that started within the last day?:doh:

    Darn it!

Posting on old threads to have a go at someone else - is a bit sad. :(

Posting on old threads to give us the benefit of your wisdom because it's essential that the OP knows something important - not so bad. ;)

So perhaps you could post some wisdom instead of having a pop?

  • Thanks op
I was hoping this thread might answer op's original questions as I am considering a tablet type device for my nearly 3 year old and before anyone mentions play my ds has lots of play (as we are outdoor pursuits instructors he is rarely indoors). But since starting preschool in September he has been increasingly interested in our at home tech and personally I would prefer him to have his own device so as not to break our (more expensive) tech. Hopefully someone might have some useful suggestions which device might suit - will be looking into iPod touch / tablet ATM

Android and "free" usualy means adverts plastered over the apps!!

If you pay for the app, it usualy means the ad's are removed.

I am not sure which device you have bought, however there are a lot of units on the market which dont have the processing power to be able to cope with the demands of some of the apps available. However I understand the problem with giving a 3 and 5 year old a device that cost's a small fortune!

Tip, you dont have to pay twice, just use the same Google play account on both tablets/android based phones and the app will become available on all devices device but for 1x purchase!

As this thread has been resurrected i would like to say thank you for this advice. I have reset them both to the same account and have bought better apps which have gone on both tablets! My son has been a lot happier with it.

I felt the full benefit of my ds throwing actual snowballs yesterday thank you!
Funnily enough I didn't make him choose between playing outside in the snow or using his tablet. The reality is children play in a variety of ways. The world would be very boring if we were all the same!

Alwaysbrassic, my daughter is 4. She enjoys the following apps:
    Lego
    Duplo
Anything by Intellijoy (lots of educational games for young kids - shapes, letters, numbers, words)
    The Snowman
    istorybooks
memory games - Matchup (by magma mobile) is a good one
ABCs handwriting by teachers paradise (you can trace letters and shapes with your finger).
    Zebra paint
Kid Mode is pretty good too. You can put the apps in there and they cannot leave that section or accidentally click an advert.

You know that you can also download kindle onto the tablet? I did see some free kids books there just before Christmas.

I think that a tablet is fairly good value for money, you can adapt the games for your child as they grow (it doesn't just become useless as soon as your child passes a certain stage) and the whole family can use it for various purposes.
