Oh, just a thought. DD1 was also bought a Kiddizoom camera when they first came out some years back. She still plays with it now. (Probably the best techno toy the ex bough her,
) It has a number of simple games on plus allowing her to take photos and add images to them.

You should start using your son's tablet - he will want it then!:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0

You should be able to put films on them for them to watch. You'll need to buy headphones so everyone else doesn't have to listen to them though.
There are plenty of free games where there aren't too many ads, I guess it depends on the games you let them play. My 5 and 8 year old play on mine and don't moan. They count themselves lucky to allowed to play on it.0 -
A tablet for a three year old? I'm sorry, but what do you expect?
He should be bought real books and toys which let him develop his imagination.

Change the apps for some more appealing games. And stump up for some paid apps, if you can't find suitable free ones - most of them are really cheap. (Our favourites are "cooking" games - where you choose the components for your own cake/ice cream/pizza or whatever, with painstaking slowness, and pretend to eat it at the end. Definitely a big time waster and attention magnet. Can't recall all the names but there are a lot of these types of game app.)
My 3 year old has an Android tablet too. When he ceases his reverse-engineering career, I might consider upgrading or replacing it but not before! (At his rate of progress... I'm thinking about 30.) Tbh, I don't think I'd buy anything more expensive for my 5 year old either. (Although she is pretty careful these days, so I'm being unfair lumping her in with her brother.)
When you compare the cost of a Leapfrog plus a couple of games to an Android tablet and a couple of apps... it's pretty shocking. Or, those Nintendo things or whatever. Kids don't spend that long on computers or gadgets. It's just not worth it - particularly at this sort of age. The playtime has no more longevity than any other "toy" - although the tidying up is a lot quicker and easier!!0 -
I thought you meant he couldn't swallow a pill, for goodness sake get the little chap some proper age appropriate toysBlackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool0

hi op
I would 2nd the having another look at the tablet and seeing if you can speed it up and get some new games for him. (and also the idea of you sitting and playing with it - that'll make him want it more for sure!:D)
if you really have no luck my nephew (who was 3 last september) has an innotab and he loves it but the game are quite expensive.
you could however sell his tablet and get something else. then they could rotate the ds, your dds tablet and the new thing between them.
my ds had a ds (:p) at 3 because he got his sisters old one when she got a dsi, he played it loads so on his birthday he got a dsi and hes definately had his moneys worth out of it. You might get a cheapish one on ebay or something?
To all those having a go at the op for letting her 3 yr old play with a computer type toy, he could be starting pre school very soon (3yrs 9 mths) and at my childrens pre school they 'teach' IT skills ready for infants school - where they use touch pads and laptops everyday!!. I think its an advantage for children to have a basic knowledge of this type of thing before they start. Just like its good if they can hold a pencil, put their shoes on, use the toilet. Its just the type of world we live in now computers are just everywhere.0 -

I can't see how its lucrative, I think you mean ludicrous.
OP, are you able to return the tablet? I don't know much about the innotab, but I know my friends 5 year old loves hers. A DS will grow with your child more than any other product. You can get very basic games for toddlers and I know my children have had hours of fun with them.0 -
The retailer was over the Internet so I only had the 7 day window to return it. Over the last week they haven't played with the tablets but have spent many hours fighting over the ds!
I have been looking on eBay and I could get a second hand ds for the same as I could sell the tablet for.
The only concern I have with a ds is the suitability of games. I know a lot of games have a lot of reading, which makes them unsuitable.
My ds is already using a computer at preschool to do shape matching!0 -
