Hi all,
My contract ends on 28th Jan and I don't have a clue about phones. I want to go to a PAYG sim so I have paid to unlock the phone but I don't know when to ask for the PAC code or when to use it ..
Thanks in advance

Ask for it NOW. It lasts for 30 days that you will be charged for even if you use it earlier, so give it to the new network about 5 days before it expires.
For right PAYG sim suggestions post your requirements. Are your sure that you exclude sim-only contracts?0 -

Thanks for your advice. I'll ask them for the pac code tonight. I have a very low usage for the phone.
It is a motorola defy and, thanks to someone on the forum 2 years ago, I got hundreds of minutes and texts and also 60 mins free any where in the world and unlimited internet for just over £8 per month. That was due to cashbacks and redemptions.
However, I am mostly housebound so I hardly use the phone. I need it when my beloved takes me out in the car and, as I volunteer for a cat refuge, I usually have to phone people back and it would cost me a fortune to phone mobiles from my land line.. I have the phone linked to my home network so I also use it as a handy computer.. It saves me lugging the laptop through the house.
I think I would use under 100 mins /under 50 texts/ and under 300mb a month. I was advised on the forum that maybe 'Ovivo' would be ideal for me, so that's what I planned to do.

Your contract does not end, it simply reaches the end of it's minimum term. It then continues on the same terms until you give 30 days notice. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Thanks for pointing that out. Luckily, I did phone them and gave them 30 days notice... and when I phoned them tonight about the pac code, they did say that they have it noted that I gave them the notice.

Make sure that you use the PAC because it voided the earlier notice.0

I know you have said you have paid to unlock but many phones on contracts sold by the likes of Carphone Warehouse come already unlocked and the likes of TMobile and other network will still charge you an admin fee even though its already unlocked.
I rang up to get my phone unlocked and they wanted to charge me so I refused and decided to think about it. I rang up a second time and spoke to a very nice female who suggested to check my phone with a different network first before me being charged for the admin fee. It was already unlocked!:j
Planning for my future early

Hanging out here tonight as looking for information on "Port out termination".
The thing is my minimum term suppose to end on 5th Jan. I asked for the PAC on the 20th Dec. I used my PAC on the 2nd Jan and Orange put a charge on my bill (despite that I already paid for the last month of my minimum term in full by DD).
Anyway I had spent 20 minutes on phone just to ask them to take off the £12 charge - they kept on saying that we already told you that but I never heard them mentioning it. Anyway, having get you to listen to my story, my warning to you is that supply your PAC code to your new mobile company ON THE DAY your minimum term ends. HTH0 -

You need to give 30 days notice to terminate the contract even when you are out of the minimum term. As you only gave 14 (20th Dec to 2nd Jan) you have been charged an early termination fee. You also left before your minimum term was up.0 -

In this case you will pay for another month.
Also, if your billing month didn't start the same day as your contract, you can be wrong in thinking that all last 30 days of the minimum term were paid in advance.0 -

I am just saying - as a warning - that the PAC code should be use on the last day of the minimum term. That is all.
So the "Port out termination" = early termination fee?0
