Certainly report the bank to the ICO. As for a "bargaining tool" it won't make any difference as to your case going to court or not as this has been human error in the bank and will probably be dealt with by a different department from that dealing with reclaims.
  • I too have experience of this. My partner recieved several statements for someone else mixed in with hers. She called BoS to complain but, other than a standard apology letter I don't think they did anything. I had suggested sending the wrong statements to the intended recipient so that he could also cause a fuss but I think she just destroyed them.

I see that someone got three sets of statements for one account. I only got two. The delay meant that from my original statutory request in January, The letter with detailed charges and interest on my second account only got posted last week. My thought is, might a "clerical" error like this be a more deliberate attempt to delay the process. The original statements all came together by Special Delivery, The correct ones after my complaint were sent second class a bundle at a time in a flimsy C5 envelope. I wonder if some of these have burst open in the post causing more delays and opening up the risk of ID theft.

You need to ask for the statements again but you know that.

As for the statements which aren't yours I'd send them back or if you have a local branch which you use I'd call them and request to speak with the Branch Manager. During the meeting I'd hand over the statements and log an official complaint and state that you want an investigation carried out as to how this happened. The last thing you want is to have a stranger receive your statements!!

It seems to me that the bank has broken confidentiality and may well have broken the data protection act.

I'd definately follow up on this though. Had these been sent to some unsrupulous toad who knows what amount of identity theft could have been done!!

Hiya all, my names nick and I recalimed a couple hundread quid with the rbs last month. I decided to do it for my mum, as after lookin over a few statements (well bout 2 years worth) she had loads of charges.

I got the template letter of here fillied it all in for her with her name and address, and REMEBER THIS she has a different surname and address to myself.

However being in such a rush, I typed in my account number instead of hers, which i hadnt noticed.

Today she received a big envelope addressed to her, at her address with MY STATEMENTS!!!!

    Surely this is wrong.

Yes I did make a mistake, but surely they would of noticed, or are they just being lazy??

With all the identity theft about the place surely this is very dangerous. Imagine if I'd typed in someone elses account number, the same would of happened. There is no link between my account and my mothers!

I am angry with this as this is wrong. Having spoke to them on the phone they are now going to send out her statements to her, however no apolgy.

    Very annoyed.

P.s in a rush sos for rubbish spelling.

Yes, the bank should have taken proper care and checked whether the account number and the address details go together.

But equally, you should have taken the same proper care and checked your letter before it went out. Always being in a rush is not a good idea when dealing with authorities, and it is always easier to blame the other party.

    Hi,
I also received someone elses statements, they were in the same envelopes as mine, when I rang the Shabbey, they just said could I pass them into a branch next time I was passing. I posted them to the person who was waiting for them with a letter of explenation, I hope he gave them hell.

  • Nat West seem to be in total melt down and are sending out heaps of duplicate statements. I now have five sets of my own plus one set of someone elses! I have contacted the other party and he tells me that he has had two lots of other peoples statements. Who do I complain to about this blatant breach of confidentiality and data protection laws?

    Adrian.

Yeah, I got sent loads of my sister's statements! This is definitely a breach of the Data Protection Act.

Ring the Chief Exec and tell them subtly that if your claim goes to court you will bring this to light to the court and let me know how it goes. :rotfl:
  • I requested my statements from Natwest about 8 weeks ago and they turned up today. (Well I thought they had)

I opened the letter and my statements were there so I thumbed through them and there are about 70 pages.

Now I always had two accounts with Natwest, one beginning 437 and one beginning 949.

The top statements were my 437 account statements but as I flicked through I noticed there was an account number beginning 948.

Natwest have only gone and sent me someone else's statements. A whole 50 pages of them:mad:

So I take it I need to ring Natwest about this but surely this is serious?
We took on Mr T and we won:D

Shame it had to end, will have to get free stuff from comps now
