Help with a baby hamper

If you want a cheap idea that looks expensive, muslins take dye very easily - you could do a rainbow set, or just a couple of co-ordinated colours, and tie them with a pretty ribbon.
I wouldn't bother with toiletries other than maybe travel-sized samples, as most last a long time and you don't know if the baby will have sensitive skin etc... Likewise with nappies, some brands might not suit, and you have no idea if the baby will be in newborn size for a couple of months, or like mine, go through the first two sizes in a couple of weeks....
The insulated mug would be great, one that feels nice to drink from would be my idea of heaven. Hand cream for mum, you wash your hands an awful lot with a new baby around, and hands get sore. A lovely colleague of mine gave me a couple of pretty dispensers (you can pick these up very cheaply) filled with some cheap hand cream to put by each sink in the house, I thought that was a lovely, thoughtful and useful gift.
Maybe a couple of baby books? You can usually get nice ones quite cheaply if you keep your eyes open.0 -
I'm making a hamper too - a friend is having twins in May and I'm trying to fill it with things that I found useful for my 2 - like plastic backed bibs rather than just cloth, muslin squares and snufflebabe ointment - bit and pieces like that.
I also want to put in an insulated mug - but personally prefer a mug with a handle - all the nice ones with slogans on don't have handles - travel mugs I suppose - but is this just me? Do other people LIKE mugs without handles? Definitely want a lid as I remember a friend of mine was breastfeeding her new baby while drinking tea... and it didn't end well....!!
The other thing I want to get is a Do Not Disturb sign to put on the front door - I remember every time I managed to get my head down while the baby was sleeping someone would inevitably come to the door!!
Oh and I want to put earplugs in as a joke for the new Daddy (possibly not a joke...!!)0 -
