I`m absolutely determined to only sow enough this year to give the numbers I need plus a couple of spares. Mainly also using seed kept in an airtight box in the fridge
Aquadulce sown 12 days ago in root trainers are up and greening nicely outside and under cover, whilst the weather is so cold
Some little gem lettuce up and out right against the wall and under an overhang, in a box with a moveable plastic cover. They`ll be taking their chances as they popped up so quickly with very high % germination, so I can sow some more but ok so far
chilli, am only sowing 5 yellow wax this year, for 3 plants and will sow today. Have 3 rocoto plants that I cut down as an experiment and if they grow, they grow. I grew masses of chillis last year, far too many
Tomatoes early feb and leeks a week or so later. All leeks just free sown in a tall plant pot and left like that until planting out, so very easy
All other veg sowings will be staggered so that I get staggered veggies and not gluts. The only annuals I will sow are bee attractants like calendula and marigolds and they will be in situ. later0 -
Hi, I would love to join you guys on here if you will have me
I've been growing for a couple of years with varying degrees of success, but hoping to make a better go of it this year.
I have been on the council allotment waiting list here for 2 years now and have moved from number 48 to 46 lol, I decided to put out some enquiries today for the allotments near by which are held by the church I think, I assumed they would have long wait lists too, but to my surprise I am number 2 on the list, so hopefully the wait won't be too long :T
I am very behind this year, so far I have done a big fat nothing, but have plans to get some peppers started tomorrow and if I can grab some more compost, I need to get my broad beans into modules aswell, I love this time of the year, it is so full of promise and seeds, lots and lots of seeds:rotfl:0 -

Hello all I have just found your thread and would love to join. I am a very keen gardener,I look after the bit of garden the local pub has as well as the piece of land that runs behind it, not huge but a fair size. I have flowers and herbs out there and some space for a few others bits. the garden that goes with our flat is small but my OH did buy me a greenhouse and I have 2 small beds and quite a few pots and baskets. we also have an allotment which we have had for 2 years and are doing well from it, my 0H does most of the work there.
hope I've not bored you all14 in 2014 in memory of Soulie. 5/14 completed:o

Well I had the house to myself last night due to SWMBO being out and my stuff being cancelled.
I sorted out all of my seeds for planting in the coming months, as well as cleaned out all of the pots and seeding trays (covered in dust due to me chopping/cutting wood nearby through the winter).
So far I am going to get started next weekend with them all.
For January seeding I ahave
Carrots
Tomoatoes
Peppers
Potatoes (forchitting)
Strawberries (that have been sitiing in the freezer since christmas)
Leeks
Parsnips
Sweetcorn
Comfry (to produce my own fertiliser)
Plus I also have some fruit trees due for delivery in the next couple of weeks
I also popped into poundland and bought some cloches, sweetpea seeds (that Ill grow up the trees) and some other bits and bobs.
In prep I also put down a polythene sheet over the veg patch last week to try and dry it out/warm it up ready for planting.
I also had to cut the grass two weeks ago (as the back garden was becoming a minefield of doggy "presents") and its still growing!!!
ll post pictures once I have the blog back up and running.0 -

What an amazing idea, I didn't even know you could do that! I've just managed to get £30 worth of vouchers! :T:T:T0 -
Welcome to all our newcomers
I look forward to reading all about your growing endeavours during 2013. I hope there will be lots and lots of photos too
I have been letting the dog out today and could hardly get the door shut quick enough, it is inches thick in snow out there and more white stuff is falling from the sky all the time. Doesn't seem to be letting up here at all.
Watered some of my seedlings that have been kind enough to grow for me.Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

Sammyroser,
I am sure your courgette plant will just love growing atop of a pile of compost/soil. Here's hoping you have a wonderful courgette glut in 2013.
Kittie,
It would be great if you could pop in every once in a while and post about what you are sowing and when....the experience of longer term growers will surely be beneficial to many in this thread.
SketchingKeri
Sounds like you won't have to wait for very much longer. All the best. And when you get it, we want loads of photies and progress reports.

Well done to you for all that you do to keep the local pub garden, the nearby land, ,your own garden and allotment going. You must have a lot of energy and enthusiasm. By the way, post as much as you want whenever you want. You will have lots of eager readers here.
Mansars,
Putting the polythene down was a good move for sure. I had meant to put horticultural fleece down and forgot to do it/wasn't well enough to do it.
Looking forward to your pics whenever you can post them.
Mollymoonlight,
I know, it's great innitt?! :cheers:Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200
