OH popped around to the alloment but said its still far to wet to be able to do anything so Is hoping for a few more dry days so he can get started. I need to get out to the pub garden it growing rubbish better than the plants at the moment, it looks a mess. Also need to go and get some compost.
I like the Idea of the comfrey fed si think I might give that a try. Thank you
midnightraven3 what a good idea to test old seeds I would never have thought of that.

Welcome all newcomers! Lovely to have you join us
Today i have planted some long way out of date crusty, dried up flower bulbs i found that i bought for pemnnies last year in Mr. T's. if they don't work, not much lost.
Also sown a tray of brassica seeds into modules. Of my early sowings of toms and beetroot, two of my toms now have their true leaves...only small, but whoopie :j

Margaret54 wrote: »Hello I will join in too. I grew beautiful strawberries for the first time last year, and we had loads of them. So easy to grow I found. I have seed potatoes to go in as soon as the frosts pass, and will also have a go at growing peas and tomatoes again. Last year was so disappointing, only the strawberries took off, so can't wait to get out there again. I have health problems too and will take it easy and do little bits at a time. It really helps lift my mood being out in the garden, and it will be so nice to read what others are hoping to grow too.:)
It does indeed lift the mood, Margaret.
I struggle a lot in the garden, but i will fight to the last to continue to potter in the garden. Last year was a big disappointment to most growers in this country, i think...here is hoping for a much better year for us allGrocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

Hellooo. My Yukon Gold and Charlotte tatties arrived from T&M and are chitting on the windowledge now. I sowed a few broad beans this week and shoved some sprouting garlic into a pot or two. I already have a tray of garlic going great guns but you can never have too much. I haven't got much else on the go though as I haven't even finished winter digging my allotment. I'm going up this weekend to have a proper crack at it. The strawberry bed is coming out and being dug. There is mulch going down around the raspberry canes and cardboard going onto some weedkilled twitch.
I am also going to suggest to husband that we cut our purple beech tree down. It was here when we arrived and is now nigh on 25ft tall. It's dark, shady and in the wrong place but it is beautiful and it breaks my heart to have to cut it down.Well behaved women rarely make history.0 -
Please can I join in the fun? . DH and myself are OAPs and grow veg to save on the housekeeping(and for enjoyment.) Have several things sown.

Jac, you are very welcome indeed! So glad you want to join us :j
Radiohelen, garlic is one of the veg that totally slipped my mind this year. I have onion sets and shallots sitting in modules in the plackytunnel but for some reason completely forgot about gorgeous garlic.
Having said that, i do love Lidl garlic, where each bulb is a whole 'clove' in itself, so much less fiddling around to peel etc.
Should have been more on the ball though. Then again, life happens and will prevent things happening when things should happen lol!Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

Before i forget, just want to make a note that last night i potted on a couple of tomatoes that had their true leaves....since potting on, into new, fresh compost one seems very miserable today...and they are in the same windowsill as before they were potted on. Hopefully it is just having a little niggle and will 'manup'.
Also potted on some leek seedlings and beets.
Today i spent a little while in the garden.
Moved/ planted blackcurrant bush, redcurrant bush, 2x rhubarb crowns and 2 x gooseberry mini bushes. Hopefully they are all now in their permanent homes.
Feel quite overwhelmed with how much there is to do.
Have spent some time this evening working out my veg growing in the raised beds for this year....it is subject to change, possibly many times...at least up until sowing time/planting times come around.Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

evening
Welcome Jackel
Went to the garden centre this morning and collected the mini plug plants I ordered a while ago. I got them half price by ordering them when i did. So they will need potting up this week but have the compost and th pots are all clean. Also got a few more packets of seeds and some reduced trays the nice thick plastic ones. so very pleased with my trip.
The last couple of years I brought the mini plugs grew themon and sold some which paid for all of the following years seeds and plants. Wasn't goin to do tat this year but may change my mind.
OH has done a bit around the allotment but it still needs a good dig and some feed put down but thats his department.
