charges relating to recovery company for keeping my car
On 14th september I was arrested and kept in custody while the police took my car away for forensic investigation. On 17th september 2012 I was put through a magistrate after spending 36 hours in custody before being charged and didn't apply for bail as I was advised by my solicitor that I will have a small chance of getting it. So I was sent to prison and I finally got bail in november 2012 by crown court. I come home and in 11th of december 2012 I get a letter from the police dated 6th of december 2012 saying I can collect my car from the named recovery company in the letter. I rang up the company on 11th of december 2012 saying I got a letter from the police to come and collect my car. The person I spoke to on the phone who worked for the recovery company told me he couldn't release my car until the police informed them or gave them a letter and told me he will contact the police and let me know. On the 11 december 2012 after getting off the phone from the recovery company I rang up the police saying that recovery company will not release my car even though I said I had a letter from the police saying I can come and collect it. The woman on the phone at the police station took my name, my address and the details of the CID officer on the letter who was dealing with my case and told me that they will get back to me as they should release it as I have a letter from the police saying I can collect it. I again phoned the recovery company and spoke to the same person on the phone from the recovery company and he told me that he will get in contact with the police and will let me know as he still can't release my car even though I said I rang up the police and they have given me a letter to come and collect my car. He still said he needs to speak with the police and when the police let him know then he will be able to release my car and he will let me know when he gets in contact with the police. However the person who works for the recovery company got back to me on the 4th january 2013 saying that they have spoken to the police and I can come and collect my car after paying them £800 for release of my car. Surely this unacceptable as the recovery company delayed the whole process and racked up large amounts of storage fees while they were contacting the police to get their confirmation. I need help as I am so frustrated this not my fault it's the recovery company fault and the police's fault for not communicating with each other and taking this long to communicate with each other in sorting this out. Please help as this not my fault and I am broke and don't have this amount to pay and get my car back. I was willing to come and collect my car when the letter stated and if the recovery company released my car back then I would not have this large amount now. As the recovery company took weeks to get back to me while racking the bill up. Please help I'm so stressed it's like i'm being punished for thier mistakes. This is injustice how is this justice? My investigation is still continuing and I face trial on 17th january 2013. Please help.

So they had had it since September? Do you have a breakdown from when the charges started and ended?
They may not have charged you for December anyway?
I would expect around £20 a day. And £800 in total comes in at less than that.
I presume the longer you leave it the more chance of the costs going up or them crushing the car or selling it on.
Get it back ASAP and then argue over the costs.
And they say crime doesnt pay eh.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Hi, I spoke to the officer who was dealing with my case as I got on the phone to the police after being told to foot the bill for £800 by the recovering company this morning through no fault of my own as they took time to get back to me. The officer in question told me today when I spoke to him that the police have already paid about over £2000 and I have not been given written proof of this just his word and he just expects me to just pay and comply as if it was my fault for the police not letting the recovery company know when they sent me the letter informing me to collect my car they should have also informed the recovery company the same time they informed me. If they did that then I would of had less to pay. But i'm not going to pay for their mistakes plus I can't afford it either. I have learnt a available lesson in life from god and will only add this to my experience and grow as a person. If they expect me to pay this ridiculous amount based on their miscommunication then I am not going too and will just leave my car as I don't have the money. I have lost my job, my girlfriend has left me and i'm growing through so much stress right now don't need this also I have my trial to think about. I know god has the good times for me ahead it's just shame that he has chosen me to go through this bad stuff in life before giving me the good stuff. But thanks anyway for replying to my post. I bet your life is better than mines right now lol.0

No actually my life sucks. Its a good job you don't know me personally otherwise you would be hanging onto life by your fingertips.
Family, Friends even neighbours are dropping like flies. How many people can one person know that all got diagnosed with cancer or similar terminal illness in the space of one year?
I live at the hospital. My health is suffering because all i seem to eat is hospital snacks and takeaways.
Without sounding harsh it sounds like you caused your issues, Where me. Im just damn unlucky. Or must have been you in a previous life.
But you have to keep smiling and think, Surely it cant get any worse. But it seems it can.
Glass half empty or half full? Its running out.. Thats all that counts..
Keep smiling.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Yeah thanks your in a more serious situation than me. At least I have good health on my side but you don't even have that. I'll pray to god to help us both and see if we can come out the other end better. After darkness there should be light at the end of the tunnel. It's just hard to think positively and keep smiling knowing that my trial is coming on the 17th january 2013. Plus this is also adding to my stress. Sometimes I wish why I was sent to this earth I was happy where I was where I had no financial pressure and where the devil could not tempt me to do wrong. I hope god listens to my prayers and answers them soon. Thanks again for your kind words. Just having someone to talk to makes me feel better. As your going through the bad parts in life like me just clinging on to life. Believe me If I could I would trade places and offer you my good health and take your place as I want to go back to god.
I pray you get better.0 -
Something is not adding up here. The police have paid yet they want £800 off you.
You should only be paying from when your car was released to you and collecting it if there was a delay. It can't have been 40 days.
I take it the seizure of your car is nothing to do with your case.0 -
Sounds like the car was part of the case. I assumed some motoring based incident. Why else would they want forensics on the car?
Maybe lots of reasons i cannot think of?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Given that forensic tests were required on the car I would say that it is either central to the case or a very important part of it. The o/p was remanded to court either straight away or after a superintendents extension, then when he got to court he was remanded to prison whilst waiting to go to crown court, so whatever he has been accused of is pretty serious.
The majority of the fee for storage of the car sound fair given that the o/p had a letter from the police in December saying that he could have the car back, and given that the o/p has been charged for an offence.0 -

If the car is so important to the case, why release it before the trial?0 -
If the car is so important to the case, why release it before the trial?Understeer is when you hit a wall with the front of your car
Oversteer is when you hit a wall with the back of your car
Horsepower is how fast your car hits the wall
Torque is how far your car sends the wall across the field once you've hit it0 -
Another thing that don't add is either the car was released to him or it wasn't. If it was released and there was a delay in collecting yes charge. But as the garage wouldn't return the car it hasnt been released, so they can't charge the OP. Something isn't right here.0
