As for stopping people going over their limits...charging them between £30-£200 in a month doesn't seem to be stopping or helping them, so what do you suggest?0 -

and secondly the children wouldnt starve, as I have friends and family nearby and can turn to them if this unlikely situation did occur.
Happy that you have friends and family, when you've been around a bit longer, you'll be amazed at how many people complain when their card does get declined.chrissyfp1 wrote:If there was nothing in my account i wouldn't be asking them to accept my card. I don't ask them to a take a risk and give me an invisible authorisation zone that i know nothing about and then they charge me £30 for that 'risk' that they have taken. I expect to have my card declined when there isn't enough money in my account to cover the cost of my purchases.
I don't actually agree with the limit they give either, it's just something banks do.
To you both, what do you think the charge should be for declining the card, due to insufficient funds? I know it's only a computer, but the software has to be written and maintained, the computer has to run 24/7. Staff have to be paid to run it and provide 24/7 cover. So a cost in doing what you want, is involved.
Yes angie, we do all agree, we do all think banks are wrong, things should be fairer.0 -
On way to avoid these charges is to arrange an overdraft limit. Even if you never intend use it!0

As the staff are there and the pc's are up and running etc to enable the transactions of everyone that has got enough money, i would be happy to pay them anymore money that it cost them to say you've not got enough money, than it costs for them to say yes thats fine you've got enough money. Coz i'm pretty damn sure that theres not a lot of difference, although saying that they do get the fee from the shop taking my card if it's paid. If it's not they get nothing.0 -

PCs:rotfl: Yes they wouldn't charge you for saying yes, as they do earn money in other ways.0 -
