If you have a criminal record, can you still claim JSA?

Not me! Family member has criminal record and has lost his job due to this. Is he entitled to any benefit?

did he declare his criminal record at the interview or asked, or was a crb check brought in after he started employment0

No he got the criminal record while he was there. He then lost his job as he couldnt remain due to type of convictions. He lives with parents and is 31. Just wondered if JSA was the same?0

If sacked they look at the reason and can impose a sanction
Only dwp will say if a sanction or how much applies0 -

He should claim JSA, however it is likely he will receive a sanction due to losing his job by his own fault.0 -
You see I don't think it's fair he should get anything. Due to type of conviction, he really can't work anywhere, but I don't think us tax payers should also be giving him pocket money....0

but what will he survive on? I dont think a criminal record effects jsa, as long as he is activley looking for work.0 -

He should contact NACRO, they can help him in approaching employers. Also, due to his seeming "unemployability", he may be referred early to the Work Programme - where he may have to undertake work experience in order to fulfil his JSAgreement.0 -
He sponges of his mum, also on benefits. It's not my fault he took the wrong path. He should be penalised accordingly0

Agreed, plus he will have to wait a few weeks to get any money. It really does depend on the crime as to how it will effect finding a job, if he declares it and is up-front someone may give him a chance0
