Anyone dealt with EUM Consultants? (insulation)

Options
A couple of youngish guys just came round touting free loft insulation, one of them had a quick look in the loft and took a few photos of the insulation on his phone and says we would be eligibal for extra insulation (up to 11 inches?)
Recently bought the house (it's approx 100 years old) and there is some insulation fitted (loft is mostly boarded) and there are also some unused rolls up there.
I'm all for getting extra insulation if it's genuine and free, wondered if anyone knew if this company was ok? Looks like they're a pretty fresh faced company and whilst they have a shiny website I can't see any reviews from a quick google search.
I know Martin recommends some of the big energy companies on the site but when I phoned British Gas they said we wouldn't qualify as there was some existing and didn't want ot send someone to check it!

Thanks in advance

  • Yes I too had someone visit me, I had insulation already and I did ask the guy that visited, he said it is below a certain measure and so it is okay to just top it up. They came a few days ago and it was great - no complaints!

    I would definitely recommend them!

  • I have had my loft insulated and cavity wall insulation put in for free after having my door knocked by someone from EUM. They were very professional and polite from start to finish and I have recommended them to everyone I can think of!!

I have recently signed up with a surveyor from EUM to have my loft and cavity wall insulated.

The surveyor was very knowledgeable and gave me plenty of links to various websites explaining a lot of the grants available which I was able to have a quick look at whilst he did the cavity wall part of his survey outside the house.

Based on what I read and what he told me, it is free for me as I get Child Tax Credits and my loft insulation could be topped up as I had less than 149mm in there (I estimate it to be roughly 100mm deep). Under the funding scheme I need an EPC done as part of this which will be free.

Someone called me yesterday to arrange the EPC, they are coming on Monday for that.

All in all I would suggest that EUM are a very professional outfit. I have had a few people knock on my door wanting to insulate my house for free but there has always been something about them that put me off. Dave from EUM was smartly dressed, wearing an EUM jacket and proper credit card style ID badge. He even put them plastic cover things on his shoes before he come into the house!!! More importantly he knew what he was talking about and even showed me stuff on the energy saving trust website about the grants available.

EUM should give me a job as their PR person after that review!!!!
  • Two gentleman called and spent over 2 hours at our property, drilling holes in walls and checking our loft, telling us we were entitled to free cavity wall and loft insulation.
I had heard nothing more after 5 weeks and so telephoned the company today, only to be told they had no details of the visit or the consultant who conducted the visit. I explained the survey was conducted using their paperwork. They said they were aware some consultants were fraudulently using their paperwork. I asked them what they were doing about it and they said it was nothing to do with them. I am not sure who has gained from this, but it was a complete waste of our time and I am concerned now that I allowed two strangers into my home (although as previous comment, I did check the company on their website before allowing them in).
  • Have had a visit from a representative of EUM.
Have to say that he was friendly, well presented and informative.

Explained what it was all about and what he needed to do. Did a test drilling to check the width of the cavity and used a camera probe to check which he showed whilst he was using. Measurements taken and photographs also taken.

He was happy to answer all the questions and was open about the time scale mentioning that there may be a delay ( Hopefully our weather will get better soon!!!!)

Had a look in the loft and confirmed that present depth was too thin and that this could be done but had to have the loft cleared.

He offered his ID card and has provided his number for further contact.

If the work is a good as he was then I will be happy

  • I had a few young men knock my door last week from eum gave me information on how I could save on this and that and when I said I wasn't sure the became very persistent and asking to enter my house to check insulation and boilers etc. being a pensioner I was reluctant and took some details and told them I had an hospital appointment and would contact them back.i have since scanned google to find that this company is running under various names . Beware if you need this sort of thing go to a main company. I believe B&q are offering the same and its free as well as I have contacted them to be safe .

  • I had a visit from a rep of this company in March and despite numerous calls I have yet to have the work undertaken .The email address on the above post does not work. Any idea who I can make a complaint to?
  • On August 1st this year I had these people EUM visit me, offering free cavity wall insulation. They were pushy and were not going to go away. I eventually conceded and let one of them in. Another man started to drill holes in my walls. they concluded that my insulation was not good enough, and needed upgrading.

In the meantime another man entered my house, without my permission. I had one upstairs, one downstairs, and as I was on my own I could not watch both of them. This was really scary.

Over 3 months later I phoned EUM to find out when I might get my "free" insulation, and was told that my house didn't need it after all, and they won't be coming. They hadn't got the common courtesy to let me know this!

They took photos, had all sorts of info from me about me. Have I been set up for some kind of scam or burglary? I think I'm going to talk to the Police.
