I guess all the shops are at it, and I agree about the loyalty points being a reason for price hikes.
I dont live near other big supermarkets so just feel they have me over a barrel cos its too inconvenient to shop elsewhere. I can understand a 2p rise but not 25p. It doesn't seem logical to me.0 -
Just looked at my receipt and the value pitta see,s to have jumped from 20 p to 40 p! Surely not!0

I noticed the value pittas had doubled in price ...I won't be buying these pitta's anymore....but the sad thing is, a lot of people still will buy them as they probably won't notice0

Shorters Club has packs of 6 Eghoyans Bakery white or wholemeal pittas for 60p and packs of 10 x 6s for 5.41 (54p per pack) and no artificial stuff. Eghoyans Bakery in Tottenham has been making pitta since 1925.0

Just over a year ago tesco was my main place to shop but then started going reduced hunting so now rarely go into t's as the prices have risen a lot even the reduced stuff is still ott unless it's very late in the day.
Tend to go to asda, lidl or iceland for basics now, tinned/frozen veg and sauces ect. Will only get meat from lidl on the weekend offers or reduced elsewhere. Hard work all this shopping around though. Need a pretty good stock cupboard though to make the most of th bargains and turn them into a meal.0 -
Pure greed on Tesco's behalf. Is this so in 4 weeks time they can drop the price back down to £1 and shout about extraordinary value?!
Tesco was amongst the supermarkets which agreed not to artificially inflate prices to make a later discount look more attractive amonst other things.

Have they not begun sticking to these new principles yet?0 -

Funny you should say that! Just today I came out of a branch of Sainsbury's and remarked how much their prices seem to have risen since Christmas.
My current benchmark (I'm not a lush, honest!) is watching the price of own brand cheap vodka - which has now reached a staggering £9.85 a bottle (it has gone up by over £1.50 in a few months, with no duty increase) This makes it ever closer to the prices of main brand and 'quality own brand' equivalents.
That, as I've said before, is the game these swindlers are playing. They are narrrowing the gap between own/value brands and main brainds.
Gailey is right - Sainsbury is just as bad as Tesco, though I do suspect they follow, while Tesco leads.0
