Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Thursday 3rd January 2013 - . This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning all,

Too dark to see what the weather is doing but it feels quite mild. Off to work today, yesterday being the first day back was very hard, and I was very tired last night :o, hopefully today will be a bit better.

Omlette for dinner tonight, it was supposed to be last night, but my shopping delivery turned up late, so we ended up with a pizza from the freezer.

Need to do a wash tonight.

Hope Flutterby's op went well xx

Jools, sending love xx

Have good days all xx

Good morning , I hope you are all well.
I havent posted all over xmas but have read the thread a few times. I note there has been some really sad situations and I send massive hugs to those affected, especially Jools and Uncle Bryn. Big hugs to anyone else needing one.
For me its been a mixed xmas and new year break. Struggling financially and emotionally. Today I have woke early with intentions of getting some housework done and then later taking the younger children to see a film at the cinema. We are very fortunate in that my elder son works at the cinema and we can see films for free, from time to time.
Good news for me, is that I got offered a conditional place at Birmingham City Uni for Adult nursing.:j This is as long as I complete my Access course and get a certain amount of distinctions or merits. If I work hard, I CAN do it.
Have spent most of my life not thinking I was good enough and this is my chance to succeed, God willing. My ultimate goal is to be a Macmillan nurse. Not sure how realistic this is but I will at least try.
Right, rest of the day is housework, kids, then leisure.I live with a compulsive hoarder who freaks out when i try to get rid of stuff so my mission for this year is to do something about that situation.I am by no means the tidiest person, but his hoarding has got out of control. Some of it, he wouldnt miss if he didnt see it going out but it does cause friction when discussed. He is on a course as from next week, so I might be sneaking a few unused (2 years at least) items to the charity shop or recycling tip. It will definitely be a little and often though.
Hope you all have a happy, warm and safe day. xx

    Morning everyone :)

Rubbish sleep last night so clearly life is getting back to normal :rotfl:
Today's plans involve a friend coming for coffee and then housework, housework and more housework.
Got to fill in new calendar with birthdays etc and hang that up, kids beds need changing and still need to find homes for some new toys

Tea will be something involving a courgette that needs using up, bacon, onion, maybe some pasta or noodles if I have them.

Hugs and spoons all round xx

Elaine sorry you're struggling but I think your dream of becoming a Macmillian nurse is admirable. Am sure you can do it :) any chance your OH could investigate some professional help for his compulsive hoarding?

    Morning all,
Been surfing on here since DH woke me at 5.15 with his bl00dy snoring.
Whilst cooking dinner last night I asked DH if he wanted a party for his B/day on the 12th or did he just want to go out for a drink and a meal. No sooner had the words left my mouth he pulled out a piece of paper from his pocket with 42 names written down. He said he'd made a list of friends to invite just incase I offered. Me and my big mouth. :( So today I'll do a stock take to see what I have to make a huge batch of chilli and a vegi hot dish. I have loads of savory stuff in the freezer, pizzas, quiches, pies etc. Might make some cheese straws if I have time and freeze them. Also some mini yorkshires ready to stuff with beef and horseradish. Any suggestions of what else I can serve gratefully appreciated.
Today I'll finish polishing anything that doesn't move and sort out food cupboards. The linen cupboard could do with a blitzing aswell.
Cooking roast lamb for dinner with woopsied veg.
Hope you all have a good day.

Just been on the grabitboard and have booked 2 nights in Torquay at the Premier inn for March. My treat for doing DH a party. :D
Meant to say P. Inn are doing a special @ £19 per night.
  • Good morning all,
Mild here too today. The sky looks beautiful at the moment, the reds and pinks in it look amazing.
I will have a quick flick round with the duster and hoover through and that will be the housework done. Everywhere is tidy. Wm will be going on shortly. I did a load last night so have to get that out and put on the airer.
Lamb (leftover and then frozen) curry for tea tonight with rice.
I am going to take jasper out for another long walk today. We walked 4 miles yesterday and i slept like a baby. The exercise and fresh air did me the world of good.
Redruby, it's awful going back to work after a holiday. I don't go back until next Tuesday. That will come hard.
elaine, congratulations! I hope you achieve your goal, well done.
I hope everyone has a good day and hugs to those who need them.
Fb, i hope your operation went well x

  • Morning all

Back to (some) normality for me today, its not technically a school day, but I need to pop in and prep some equipment ready for the start of term on monday - my own fault, I gave the list to the technician too late in the term... oopsie. Ah well, its always good to have a reason to get up and out of pyjamas!

Left overs from last night for tea, and then off out pricing up a new freezer. Mines given up about 3 times now, and supposedly the landlord has fixed it every time. I've had enough of having to throw everything away though, so if I can find one at a reasonable enough price, I'll buy instead. It can always move with me when I finally get out of here!

Hope everyone has a good day

  • Hello all.
Day off work today, because I have to work on Saturday, but my BF started work at 8, so I had to drop him off.
Going to pick up a second freezer that his mum is giving us this afternoon, so that will come in useful. No more playing freezer Tetris every time we need to get something out of the one we have, we'll be able to have more organisation! Plus we'll be able to stock up more, and it should hopefully cut our 'big shops' down from monthly to every 2 months.
I really need to get my craft room sorted out, over the last month or so its just been a 'dumping ground' (its the conservatory so was too cold to work in there!) but I plan to get a lot more craft markets booked this year, so I need to get sorted in there!
    Hope flutterby's op went well.
    Have a nice day everyone

    Morning All
I was so looking forward to sleeping in my own bed, I had a bath and put the electric blanket on ready for a super night's sleep and was awake every hour! Oh well, tonight can only be better.

Going to clear the house of christmas today, it seems a shame that I didn't get to see much of the trees this year as we were away - they probably would have annoyed me by now anyway.

Elaine - Good for you, hope you achieve your goal.
FB - Hope you're feeling better.

Off to tidy up now, take care. XX

    Morning all

elaine go for your dreams, my best friend is a Macmillan nurse and is incredible at her job. It is hard though , you have to give your all x

bitsy. How about roasted veg pasta bake its lovely especially with some bacon in , I add some toms to mine for moisture and some cheese on top , ooh I fancy that now :D

Day off today, so Christmas is going to be packed away for another year , I can't wait now cos all the stuff around irritates me after a few days

Both girls will spend the day revising , they have big exams next week, I felt sorry for them last night they thought they would have a break from revising and take advantage of orange Wednesday at the cinema , so off they went giving themselves loads of time to queue ,after they had queued for ages they found the film had sold out , so they dashed to a nearby cinema who was showing the same film and that had sold out too :(
So they came home ( normally they pre book but you can't with orange we'd as far as I know ) bless them a lot of wasted time and energy and petrol

Have a good day everyone xx

    Morning :hello:

I coughed this morning and pulled a muscle at the top of my back/bottom of my neck - can't actually work out exactly where it is :D I'll have to be careful today.

I was doing well yesterday, til 3pm when I got distracted by a film :DBitsy did not approve :p:D The house has been hoovered and dusted, and has had a good airing – I flung all the windows open for a couple of hours. Can't believe it's the beginning of jan and the heating is off during the day.

A few decorations need fixing, I'll do that today.

Made my calendar on a spreadsheet but haven't printed it yet, I'll do that today too.

The diary is filling up nicely :D All trus are back at work, so I can start organising all those bits of paper properly.
    Bulletproof
  • Morning all, got a trip to Mr T today. Will be nice to get out of the house, although will probably kill me! Lol.

Just hung up a load of washing from the dryer (new) to pray some creases fall out. I love having the dryer (we don't have radiators so drying on the airer takes an age) but we never used to iron!! Any tips?

Unsure what to do with our Christmas tree. OH insisted on a real one this year and its been so good! But it's lost hardly and needles and still looks gorgeous! Really resent binning it! Do you think it would look weird to move it to the garden (after removing decorations) in its stand and leave it to live out there?
