Scratched someones car - wanting me to pay over the odds for it

If it was my car, I would want it repaired properly. You are quibbling over £140. You scratched his car pay up and be more careful in future
Who's to say the company op got aren't reputable? We're told the guy has an old car full of scratches, it's unlikely he's going to be that bothered.0 -
Now just wait for the personal injury claim to come through lol0

Probably because like most normal people, they get a bit annoyed when some random stranger damages their property and then expects them to be charitable to the very person who caused the damage. His car was already covered in scratches and admitted at the time his car got scratched on a monthly basis because of where he lived.
Will I just need to pay up for the more expensive quote?
Thanks
Yes. You are the one at fault and as such are completely at his mercy if you're trying to avoid going through your insurance.0 -

Doesn't work like that. He takes it to the garage of his choice and claims off your insurance or his insurers get it taken to their preferred repairers and claim off your insurers. Your insurers get absolutely zero say in where it is taken.
Just to add that he will most likely put in an additional claim for a hire car as well plus any income lost from having to take time off work.0 -
I've read it. You say you are a good driver and you wanted to know why your two incorrect posts saying the OP would have to pay first his "minimum excess", then any "voluntary excess" weren't dished out any thanks??
What do you want thanking for?
:wall: post three, the one you essentially reworded immediately after whilst saying all the same things. Except you didn't complain about the endorsement of hit and run advocated in post two like I did.
You did add your own little bit on the end, I'll give you that but essentially, you just said the same thing I had. You know it, I know it. Now you've had an apology an explanation and an agreement yet you are still going on. Why is that?
For the OP - what sort of car is it? Be interesting to see what it might actually be worth! What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -

Obviously the guy is bothered, or he would be happy to go with the cheapest company as chosen by the OP."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

I scratched the neighbors car 7 days ago. I went to the person door and owned up to it. We agreed that i would pay for it at a garage rather than through the insurance.
The following day I phoned him with a spray painter and his details, I had paid for it and got it all arranged. I thought that was it.
Today, I got an arrogant phone call saying he was going to someone else who was 3 times the cost of the one i had paid for and if i didn't go to that person, he would go to a more expensive garage or go through my insurance.
I do not understand why people are like this ?! His car was already covered in scratches and admitted at the time his car got scratched on a monthly basis because of where he lived.

You paid for the work to be done so you must have a receipt? would that not prove that the two of you settled?0 -
:wall: post three, the one you essentially reworded immediately after whilst saying all the same things.........
Come off it.
That post (#3) just was more poor advice to the OP!
eg. You wrongly advised that he was at the mercy of the third party who you said "had him over a barrel" as he had failed to notify his insurer of the incident (which occurred just 7 days ago!).
Then went on again about how his excess was at risk!
And you now say that my post #4 is a rewording of your tosh, and want me to thank you for it (do you mean I stole your copyright?)
Anyway this must be boring others, and doesn't help the OP......oh, and what happened to this (post #22):fivetide wrote:Not saying more as I don't want to take this off topic for the OP0 -
At the end of the day £260 cash to him will still be cheaper than thee hike in premiums you will get for the next 5 years.
I think I would still go with his price ...........grudgingly.0
