Hmmm £260 is right on the bubble. You probably have a £250 minimum excess.

As I said (and as Quentin has repeated) he can take it wherever he wants. Insurance will have an approved repairer so it won't be the cheapest by any stretch. If he chooses his own place then they probably won't guarantee the work that's all.

I'd still say "ok let's go through insurance" but make sure you remind him he still has to tell them about it and even declare non-fault claims. That might at least help wipe a bit of the smirk off :)
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?

Whatever minimum excess the OP has is irrelevant (as there is none to pay for third party claims).

What are the actual costs involved, and how much damage was done, for all we know the guy you wanted to use could have been a spray can bodger, and your neighbour simply wants a "decent" job done?

The place he wants to go to has the same qualifications as every other garage I have phoned for a quote. The only difference is he wants double the price.

There isn't a mark on my car at all, just a small 2cm scratch on his and can only be seen if you bend down and look for it.

The point is, he didn't have to be so nasty about it and if he told me at the time he wanted a certain garage, i wouldn't have challenged anything. It is just I phoned loads of places, phoned him, gave him the details of a garage and organised it all which he said was ok and thought that was the end of it.

I didn't expect him to phone and be arrogant and basically could hear his sarcasm and arrogance down the the phone demanding money so he can take it to a garage double the price. It was all a bit out of the blue and just strange to be honest.

Quite right - unless they have a voluntary one. Glad you are reading some of the posts though :D

He won't have to pay an excess (either vol. or compulsory) for a third party claim against him!

Why not just stand corrected when you confuse sillybilly by posting incorrect advice instead of your unnecessary sarcasm?

The scratch can only be seen if you bend down really close to look for it. About 2 cm. a 2001 car with scratches all over it.

The garage I paid for is a reputable garage with qualified spray painters , i phoned other garages near by and they quote approx the same £100-£120.

This guy the person wanted for the same job says it will take him at least three hours to take the bumper off so he wants at £260 for the job.

It sounds like he's trying it on. If it were a new car then £260 is reasonable but if his car isn't showroom condition it sounds like he's taking you for a mug and a £75 repair would do the trick. Get it settled quick, before he claims for whiplash for him and his family and a hire car for 6 weeks.

i think he either knows the bloke and is getting some money out of this - or he is wanting you to pay for more work than actually required.

    not nice.
  • lol he wasn't in the car. I was reversing out my drive very slow and gave it a bump. I went to his house and told him i had done it.

It just had to be a weird person that answered the door.

  • so if i phone to claim insurance (i am fully comp) because I only made damage to his car I will go through 3rd party where I do not need to pay any excess?
