He won't have to pay an excess (either vol. or compulsory) for a third party claim against him!

Why not just stand corrected when you confuse sillybilly by posting incorrect advice instead of your unnecessary sarcasm?

I do stand corrected. Being a good driver I've never had a third party claim although I have had to claim my excess back previously for non-fault incidents. I was under the impression that as the person was claiming on their policy, the insurance company would look for the cost back. If that isn't the case, then fine.

Sorry you had an issue with the rest of the post but why pick out points you disagree with rather than simply saying "that's a good point?" for ones that are right (as was the case with the initial post which had already said most of the things you did?). You have a lot of thanks and rightly so... how many do you dish out yourself though? I was not having a go at you, if you got that impression then I do apologise.

Not saying more as I don't want to take this off topic for the OP.

Good luck with your claim OP!
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?

so if i phone to claim insurance (i am fully comp) because I only made damage to his car I will go through 3rd party where I do not need to pay any excess?

If your insurer deals with the claim you won't have any excess to pay (irrespective of whether or not you have a voluntary excess - ignore posts from fivetide suggesting you do).

Though you don't need to put in a claim.

The third party needs to put in a claim (either through his own insurer/direct with you/direct with your insurer).

If he puts in a claim direct with you, then all you do is pass it on direct to your insurer (unanswered) and they will sort it out.

Ha Ha love it!!! I wish it was. Nah, it was a reputable garage that gave me a cheap quote and I have been told through word of mouth he is good.

I just don't understand why I should pay nearly triple the price for the exact same job! I phoned the guy he wanted me to go to and told me that it will take him 3 hours to remove the bumper and that is why it will be triple the cost as everyone else. That was seriously his reason.

I am seriously tempted to go through insurance and pay over the odds that way out of spite because the insurance said they will take his car to the cheapest quote they get nearby. haha

To be fair £260 or the 3hrs labour sounds near the right price'ish to me, there is the prep work and overheads, hope you had taken pictures of the damage, perhaps if the scratch was small, then a smart repairer could have completed the job. Depending on the car as well, the repair could well put the 3rd party vehicle beyond economical repair, my bro got an 03 mondeo diesel for £300 with MOT. Let the insurance deal.

I've read it. You say you are a good driver and you wanted to know why your two incorrect posts saying the OP would have to pay first his "minimum excess", then any "voluntary excess" weren't dished out any thanks??

What do you want thanking for?

Your neighbour is entitled to have the repair done at his choice of garage,

True, but he won't necessarily get the full cost of such a repair out of the insurers if they can show he's not mitigating the loss reasonably.

If, for example, you run into my '03 corsa and leave a scratch down the side (all panels), then I'd be hard pressed justifying having the resultant respray / blend in done by the guys who did this one!

On the other hand, for the difference between £100 and £250-ish they're unlikely to complain :D

The scratch can only be seen if you bend down really close to look for it. About 2 cm. a 2001 car with scratches all over it.

The garage I paid for is a reputable garage with qualified spray painters , i phoned other garages near by and they quote approx the same £100-£120.

This guy the person wanted for the same job says it will take him at least three hours to take the bumper off so he wants at £260 for the job.

I know it isn't a lot of money, it is just the principle of him agreeing with it the following day after the incident and calling me 7 days later being really nasty. He wouldn't let me put a word in and kept saying down the phone I will do as he says etc.

If he phoned me and was friendly and polite about the matter and explained his reasons It would be a different story. He just demanded after knowing I had everything arranged for him the week previously that he wanted to go somewhere else 3 times the price. If i don't pay he will go through my insurance. That was my options basically.
If it was my car, I would want it repaired properly. You are quibbling over £140. You scratched his car pay up and be more careful in future :D

Go thru your insurer. Be interesting to see which hire car the neighbour will be driving while the scratch is repaired. Also beware , he might follow up with a whiplash claim 6 months later :)

Although with most insurers you don't pay your excess for third party claims, some of the lower priced ones are making you pay the excess for this type of claim. I suggest you check your policy documents bor this before you put the claim through.
