  • Hi

i had the same phone call a few weeks ago from COVERGIRL STUDIOS saying that i had won a competition and asking for a DEPOSIT OF £3O PER PERSON GOING i told them i couldn't afford to pay it then and they are supposed to be calling me back on monday - i'll be telling them to stuff their competition
  • Its so sad to read people saying they were conned into paying a deposit,i went for the day ,and iwas glad i did cause ive lost some weight and gained my confidence back ,of cause its a business they are running so wat do u all expect you get a free makeover ,free photography and you still choose a free picture ,no one forced me to buy the pictures ,but im glad i did ,i wld recommend it to anyone ,if u dont have enough money then dont pay ,and my advice to everyone stop entering competion for freebies so u dont recieve such calls.

But I paid £40 each for a makeover & photo, mine wasn't a freebee. So I don't expect to have to pay a deposit on top.

I purchased two makeovers & photoshoots from lastminute.com for my daughter & I.

I was going to take her for her birthday.

Now I've just rang to book & they INSIST I have to pay a deposit as well. I told them these are tickets I have purchased NOT "won", but they insist, no deposit of £25 PP no booking.

They insist they make a loss if I don't turn up!

How can they make I loss, I've already paid them.

Now it gets worse, not only must I pay a deposit in case I don't turn up, but I don't even get it back when I do.

I get it back 7 to 10 days after my appointment:mad:

    This is wrong surely:confused:

Why should I pay another £50? Ive already paid for makeover & a small photo each.

My daughter also received a phone call telling her she had "won" a makeover worth £500. She foolishly gave her bank details but was led to believe that payment of £30 would only be taken if she did not turn up at the appointment. However, a payment of £60 was taken off immediately. To take up this "free" makeover would have cost us over £400 in travel expenses and accommodation as we lve nowhere near London. I rang up to

To take up this "free" makeover would have cost us over £400 in travel expenses and accommodation as we live nowhere near London. I rang up to cancel the appointment and request a refund of the deposit but was told that the only way to receive a refund was to attend in person as they needed my daughter's debit card to be able to issue a refund!!!!! They managed to take the payment off without her card.
I was advised by Trading Standards (although I was aware anyway) tht under the Distance Selling Regulations you have a cooling off period of 7 days (and then only if they have sent you details of their cancellation policy which they did not). Their website indicated that it was a 24 hour cooling off period.
The girl I spoke to said she would consult her manager and ring me back within half an hour. As expected, she never rang so I confirmed the cancellation in writing and am waiting to hear from them.
Having checked on their website tonight this is now showing up blank.
Will keep you all posted as to the outcome.
  • OMG i dont believe this!!! I got approached to go to this studio like everyone else!! Obviously i knew that none of it was erally worth £500 but I went ahead with it as I was told my deposit would get refunded plus I would get a free photo....so why not i thought to myself??

Anyway i went yesterday and when I was viewing the photos I told the woman that I dont want to purchase any, I just want my free one. She replied "your wasting my time, people like you that come just for a free photo" and she wouldnt even let me view the photos properly, she made me pic one from these tiny thumbnail views!! So I just picked one

Then afterwards when I asked for the refund, she asked for the receipt of the deposit they "apparently" sent through the post- I said I dont think I received any but that I will go home and double check. She said unless I show her the receipt she cant refund the money!!! BUT THEY NEVER BLIMMING POSTED ANY RECEIPTS now theyr not giving my £30 back!!

OMG I am disgusted by this and by reading everyone else's awful stories here. What do i do now?? They cant just not give me deposit back - THEY KNOW I PAID FOR IT AND THEY NEVER SENT ANY FORM OF RECEIPT TO MY ADDRESS!!!
  • I would just like to say thank you! After receiving a call from coverlook studios today i thought i would look them up as they said i had one first prize in a competition i entered on line.
It all sounded fine and above board until he asked for a £30 deposit over the phone. I wanted to check the company out first so i came online and looked it up, their website looked good and then i came across this one. Now i know not to call them back with my card details. thank you!!!!!!!!
