  • I've done this for the last couple of years - I make up lots of bits and pieces and keep them in a box ready for gifting when needed.

    Last year, I made:
Hand knit gloves, scarves and hats
    Kindle/e-reader covers
Sweets (fudge, toffee, fruit/mint cremes, and florentines)
    Sweetie vodka
    Various jewellery
    Wooden candle holders

Luckily, they've always been well received thankfully!

I'm in the process of making OH a kindle cover - but it's out of his old coat so I couldn't really give him it as a gift :rotfl: I've been meaning to do it (the gift making not the kindle cover) for years but just end up rushing too much at the last minute and then panicking and buying shop bought. NO MORE! I'm super excited for this challenge :D

oh & mysk I thought of that but I've never been a guide so I'm not really sure what she might need! I'm a bit useless really haha! Also I did buy her and her older sister camp blankets for Christmas - from the guides website - this makes me think that the 'branded' element (ie everything being made by the association) might be just as important to her and so she'll not appreciate it. I could on the other hand be just worrying for nothing!

Fingerless blue gloves with pink flowers. Will get my diary and address book out later to compile a list for the year. But I definitely have 3 weddings, 2 christenings and at least 1 new baby to sew for...

Have you got a pattern for these? Fantastic!!!

    Edit:
Just read back. Will look up crochetgeek :j

Crocheted face flannels make great gifts with a handsoap.

    Scuff!!
what about a walking stick?? i've made 2 of them for different folks and they've been received quite well!! just takes a sturdy branch either whittled to remove the bark OR painted and sealed......drill a hole at the top for a leather wrist strap, and personalize!! teens like to see their name - you could either paint her name on the stick or string letter beads on the wrist strap , etc..... just a thought!! :-)

or if she has long hair, maybe some fabric covered hair elastics and a matching bag (think messenger bag that goes over you crossways) to hold a water bottle, snacks,"nature finds"???
    just some ideas!! :-)

  • Scuff - your 11 year old cousin how about making or altering a box for her to store her nail varnishes in? Or making a make up bag for the same use or wash bag type of bag?

Business card holders, cufflinks, or a gadget cozy of some kind?
