Don't Throw Food Away Challenge

I have been keeping a record of what I have bought since September and have a list of what I have thrown away since then.
Mustard and Cress (wilted), runner beans (not very nice) , Bread, Milk, Apples (I really must buy one at a time), Radishes (gone soft), more milk, Yoghourt (past its use by date, and tasted funny), some more milk, 2 bread rolls (left out after a party and went rock hard), runner beans (forgot to use), I piece of cheesy puff pastry bought for party and forgot to put out - I did eat two on the following two days) and half a banana (forgot to eat it).
The milk was either left out of the fridge or past its use by date and the bread I am trying to put half in the freezer when I get it and use the other half fresh.
There is only me here, I buy about a pint of milk a week and probably only eat half a loaf of bread a week - my freezer is at least a third full of bread which I am intending to toast which should last most of January!

Just a suggestion, I am on my own too and bread seems to be the thing that could be most wasted, its a good idea to freeze half your loaf, but stale bread can be used as well, do you like bread pudding, bread and butter pudding. I love eggy bread for breakfast, any stale rolls, slices etc can be soaked in the egg and fried, also if you have a food processor even rock hard bits can be turned into breadcrumbs, if you dont want to use these the birds will be grateful and to my mine feding the birds does not count as waste.Slimming World at target0 -

Can I join please as I'm trying to tackle our shopping budget and we waste such a lot.
If I put £7.50For this month and try reduce it month on month.
Tonight I have used up some cream that went out of date yesterday and sad looking potatoes to make potato dauphinoise to go with the lamb I was roasting for. A couple of portions are in tubs and will go in the freezer for another night once cooled, normally they wold go in the dogs
I am wondering what to do with all the bits of cheese left over from Christmas and was think I could do these http://www.weareneverfull.com/what-to-do-with-leftover-cheese-make-a-mixed-cheese-tart-darn-it/0 -
Already chucked something out
made HM pizzas for dinner and used a leftover half carton of passata to make the sauce, but it was on its last legs so threw away what was left after making the pizza - around 1/4 of the carton which I think was 29p, so only 8p in total, but still not a good start!
On the plus side, pizzas are good to use up random leftovers and I used up the end bit of the bag of spinach and some mushrooms which might have ended up chucked in a day or twoPart time working mum | Married in 2014 | DS born 2015 & DD born 2018

Once again I've made a cup of tea - left it brewing while I do something else - 30mins later and cup of tea cold. Wondering if I should count the cost of wasted tea bags! That may take me to my £5 quite quicky0

The amount of brews i begin to make and then forget about with 3 kids around my feet is frightening! Now i just stick 'em in the microwave to heat them back to drinking temp when i remember them

I wouldn't give it another thought. I did so this morning. This thread being here just makes you think more.

Count me in, please. I'm truly ashamed of the amount of wasted food I found lurking at the back of the fridge before Christmas.
So much so that I've been making onion marmalade today with some of the onions under the sink. I can't remember what possessed me to buy a 10lb bag.
I'll aim to be below £5, please.import this0 -

Thanks! Just thinking that £5 is such a random guess that I may reach it quite easily is all but I can just try my best
Sorted through my fridge and chucked out a dodgy looking half lemon. From Mr M value pack, I think was 69p for 5, so that would be another 7p lol.
Also threw out a carton of ambrosia custard that as about a quarter full which had been opened for over a week, OH's mum brought it round though when she visited and as I didn't pay for it I'm not counting it.
Froze some leftover sausages in the freezer (just opened today for OH's fry up but there was too many left for tomorrow) so preventing some waste therePart time working mum | Married in 2014 | DS born 2015 & DD born 2018

I will be keeping an eye on this thread for Jan. I won't commit to a figure as we have a busy month and I have signed up for a few challenges already so I don't want to over commit and end up not keeping track of everything!
Today the plan is to cook lots up with leftovers. I will be making banana muffins with bananas from the freezer/choc chips which need using up. Lunch today will be ham and mushroom pasta carbonara type dish using mushrooms which need eating and LO Christmas ham from the freezer. I have family coming over for buffet type tea so I'm cooking a couple of quiches and also potato wedges and a few other bits all using LO or 'stock' items. Will also make curried parsnip soup and brussel sprout soup (first time trying both of these), but these may have to wait until tomorrow evening as have quite a bit to do today and am working tomorrow.0
