Don't Throw Food Away Challenge

Well this months challenge ended yesterday for me. And i think ive done very well. If it wasnt for the eggs i dropped it would have been £0 waste. I dont count veg ends though as there is only me and i have tried incorporating these in my cooking but the taste isnt nice. So my new challenge starts today, and i will wait for the March thread to start.0

A wrinkly kiwi just had to be thrown out as it was far too soft for me to eat. There were 2 but managed to eat the other one as not quite so bad. They were 8 fruits for £1 so another 13p to add. DH ate the banana that was past its best. We had belly pork in the week and that took care of a wrinkly apple which was turned into apple sauce. Have a small amount of water cress that is on its last legs its going to get added to a cheese and marmite sandwhich and eaten shortly.
Good luck for March- I'mdoingitforme

I completely forgot about this challenge oops!
Will start from today...have loads of sprouting potatoes (that I would normally put straight into food waste bin) so I am going to get the chip fryer out (for first time since April 2012) and treat us all to chicken and chips tonight
I also have some wrinkly apples in the fruit bowl so will made black sabbaths fruit pudding served with custard0 -
can i just double check - its only food you don;t use that you count isn't it - not whats left on the plates after each meal?0

I'm going away until Monday so would not get eaten over the weekend. In future I will try to remember to slice it before freezing it.
Or you can blitz it for breadcrumbs, they freeze brilliantly and are fab for coating chicken or salmon.
@ donnajt - it's whatever you feel you want to reduce wastage on at home. Personally I like to include LOs on plates because it helps us to focus on portion sizes - but I don't go OTT on it, I won't include a few bits of scraps!0 -
I dont have any waste on my plate. If i did i would count this as waste too. I portion control and make sure i eat it all, any spare food that is cooked and not used i freeze.can i just double check - its only food you don;t use that you count isn't it - not whats left on the plates after each meal?0 -
Thank you both - I must admit I don't throw much away - usually pizza crusts, veg peelings etc0

I bought a 5kg bag of onions yesterday from morries. I have just costed them, there were 53 onions in the bag works out just under 4p each. So there you didnt waste quite so much afterall.
Thanks for posting this - I need LOADS of onions for my favours for my wedding (the men are getting little jars of onion chutney) and I didn't realise you could get massive bags like this from the supermarket.
We've managed to eat some things up this weekend, sausages and gnocchi that was in the freezer. I fear I am going to waste half a trifle though, we had our parents down yesterday so I made a trifle for pudding, however there is still half of it left in the fridge. I haven't had a particularly healthy weekend and I really don't like the idea of having to eat trifle up all week!

Had to throw away a pan of 'burnt offering spuds' (PLUS pan) this week - very annoyed at myself
.
Some salad stuff also went off but it had been whoopsied, so was my own fault at buying too much and not watching the condition of it
.
Apart from that, there were the 'skin scrapings' from the potatoes; some peelings from the oxtail stew - not good enough for using in soups etc; some 'mouldy bits' that have been pinched off the loaf that's in use at the moment; teabags; coffee grounds and finally some oxtail bones from the stew.
Feeling quite pleased with myself - apart from the salad and spuds :j.0
