Where is the best value place to live in the country considering...

If you have no ties it can be more difficult to make decisions such as this.
I, too, think you should look at areas that appeal to you and meet your criteria and then look at the local property market.
However, as people have said in other similar threads, I would rent first to make sure it is what you want. And check out local GPs, hospitals etc.
We met a couple on holiday several years ago who had moved to Wales (cheaper property). They wanted to move back to England but the intervening rise in property prices made it impossible.0 -

There are detached properties available in Cambridge for considerably less than the OP's budget.
There are not ... have you searched on Rightmove?
It is just about possible to get something detached for £270k, but this seems to be the starting price and so they are smaller or presume not in the best areas.0 -

My point being that with a £275,000 budget the OP can pretty much live anywhere in the country. Leave this thread running long enough and no doubt pretty much every location will be recommended. Pretty pointless really.0 -
I'm in a nice part of Knowsley (about 10mls from Liverpool) and we've got good transport links here.
The places i've often thought may be nice to retire to , the Lakes; Wales; Yorkshire, perhaps Cornwall are the very places i see on the Tv news with the worst floods. So when i do decide to move that will be one of the top things i'll watch out for.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

So actually you have found two bungalows in Cambridge one on a travellers site and one on an industrial estate, excellent!0
