Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Tuesday 1st January 2013 - New Years Day. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Well Happy New Year to all my Old Style friends :dance::dance:
Many thanks for all your supportive posts and ongoing friendship - it means so much to me:T:T:T

Hope you all had a lovely time, whatever you were doing. I have been up with Poppy Dog but she is now snoring on my feet at the bottom of my bed:o

Im waiting for kids to come back in - no doubt worse for wear:eek: Honestly it is worse now than when they were little for keeping me awake.

Im not setting any resolutions but know that I will keep plodding on - hopefully in the right direction.

My thoughts are with Jools and Uncle Bryn and with those struggling or worrying.

I WISH YOU ALL A HAPPY AND PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR X

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

    Happy New Year!

Hope 2013 brings you all you wish and hope for, especially health and happiness.

Well, I am still not home, may try to trundle up the road tomorrow, DD and I are staying at Aunts in Chester for a couple of days. NYE was very quiet, my cousin invited us to a party but I didn't really know anyone apart from her and she is being a pita with regards to her Mum (my aunt) so it would have resulted in a row of some description!

Have a good day everyone. Take care. XX

Happy New Year everybody. Here's hoping 2013 is a great improvement on 2012.

Driving down to Birmingham today. I have a home to create. DH has apparently been living like a student since I went back north. Lovely Mum and Dad gave us JL vouchers for Xmas, so I get to spend them making the house a bit more me friendly.

Hope everyone had a wonderful NYE celebration and that there aren't too many sore heads around.

    Morning everyone :D

Hope not too many are nursing a hangover ;)
Quiet NYE for us, just a normal night really :o
Off out to walk at Wyre Forest today, will take packed lunch, flask of coffee etc in true :money: style ;)

Not sure what will be for tea, probably something quick and easy :o
H goes back to work and he's not looking forward to it. He's away overnight again which having been at home since 21st Dec he is going to find it a wrench. Oh well things getting back to normal at least means we can work on getting house sold and relocating ASAP.

    Happy New Year everyone xxx

Butterfly Brain love your last sentiment :)

Lovely and sunny here today but still very breezy.
Usual day here of washing, housework and cooking.
Roast lamb and veg for lunch today. Any leftovers will be made into curry for the freezer.
I hope everyone has a good day and hugs to those who need them.

Happy New Year to you all.
Hubby is recovering from his man flu & is up and about for the 2nd day, I have the beginnings of a cold, so have caught it from him.
Breakfast has been eaten & the fish fed, I need to jump in the shower soon & then finish decluttering the kitchen, I got waylaid yesterday into cleaning the cooker.
Hubby wants to potter in the garden so keeps leaving the door open in hopes that I'll join him, no chance, I'm staying warm indoors.
I have some piri piri chicken in the fridge waiting to be cooked for hubby's ready meals & some chicken wings for his snacks, I shall cook them later on whilst cooking tea.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

  • Happy New Year everyone!
Had a nice quiet night last night - we had pizza, watched Star Wars and I started crocheting a new blanket with the yarn my BF got me for Christmas. We turned over to BBC1 to watch the fireworks and then onto Jools Holland when the sheer number of fireworks prompted a 'waste of money' rant from both of us! That money could have been spent in so many better ways....
Anyway! I have my slow cooker on with some smart price beef in stock (my BF doesn't like anything other than just beef in gravy, so I do my veg separately)
I need to pop to Asda when it opens at 10.
Back to work tomorrow - not looking forward to that at all!
Hope everyone has an amazing 2013 and that the OS ways continue!
I'll leave you with one of my favourite Neil Gaiman quotes:

“May your coming year be filled with magic and dreams and good madness. I hope you read some fine books and kiss someone who thinks you're wonderful, and don't forget to make some art -- write or draw or build or sing or live as only you can. And I hope, somewhere in the next year, you surprise yourself.”

    Morning all!
Boiled a ham and made lentil soup with the stock yesterday, so they can forage for food here, I will visit my mum, then think I will hide out at my friends house for a while and drink her coffee for a change, at least the out-laws wont find me there! Need to peek in DDs room and see whos in there, she went out for a while but came home earlyish, and I can hear assorted coughing from her room!
All the best for a prosperous and healthy 2013 for all of you and yours xxx

    Happy New Year!!

    Jools xxx

I love new year's day, I usually get up early with no hangover and the whole world is dark and silent, but this year it was light when I woke up and I have a bit of a headache :D Still lovely and quiet though.

Mr tru's face was so funny – told him yesterday that I'm going to crochet a hat for him, then make one of those hideous doll things with the huge skirt to go over the loo rolls :rotfl:

I need to pick the rest of the sprouts (not sure I can face that at the moment), then tot up how much fruit and veg we grew last year. It's not going to be as much as previous years, but not too bad considering the rubbish weather.
