Perhaps clothes is just your way of expressing your creativity and imagination. Maybe after your mum died, it was a way of allowing people to communicate with you - if they could comment on your clothes it would be a way of invoking positive, happy comments?

I think you're you're right that you can over think things.

My DH loves lots of clothes. DS and I tend to have far fewer and wear them a lot. Now that we're more organised, DH has loads that he wears every so often and keeps for years. DS and I tend to buy replacements for a season as needed, and have particular items so I may keep 3 trousers for work but the style/colour/material will be updated every so often.

DD is like DH but as I do the budget, I'd rather inflict my way on her!

I have some general stuff to CS.

I am spending more time reading posts than actually decluttering though.

Will probably do some paperwork decluttering over the weekend. I think we'll just be tidying up all our part done jobs..

I just interrupted myself to get the post and I am both staggered and motivated. On the previous thread, I wrote that we had taken a load of cuddly toys etc to a local charity shop. All stuff that was sweet and good condition but had overstayed its welcome. Just got a gift aid letter through and with gift aid the shop made £225. Yet it would not have been worth the time and hassle for us to sell (I think people will buy for charity anyway). I am both pleased and motivated now - it's good to get that kind of feedback. I know it seems an unnecessary expense to send a giftaid letter but it definitely makes me want to donate more.

f you receive anything in a My Little Pony envelope from the 80s - that's me!

You could always sell the MLP envelopes themselves on ebay - that stuff is collectable.

(that sounds like hoarder-speak, doesn't it? Or does it? I'm still not quite sure what's normal ...)

Sorry - missed the other posts where this was already suggested. I do know, however, that '80s MLP stuff sells very well especially if you're prepared to send it abroad. I've sold MLP myself - the last two lots went to Finland and Australia!

sjprmc01- I think that although we knowthat advertisers etc are trying to get us to part with our cash resisting it is another matter... Watch TV, read mags, even newspapers esp the supplements and every article is about what's 'in' and 'lifestyles' are sold to us. That's what life is about is the message.
I think the only way to not get sucked is don't look. Don't read mags, don't watch TV shows and very important DO NOT go into shops 'for a look'. In the shopping centre near to me if you get one escalator it brings you out inside New Look and if I go that way (usually visiting the loo) I have to talk to myself as I walk through the shop 'don't look, you don't need anything' I have to avert my eyes and look straight at the door, but even then it's hard to ignore the pretty stuff.
I now rarely even go to the supermarket, as that's as bad, especially bigger ones with clothes and housey stuff, I shop at the butchers and the grocers and maybe a monthly shop for packets and tins at the supermarket.
I walk my dog, come and browse on here, go to my allotment, rant about world affairs to my poor sons lol!! But DON'T LOOK at the pretty stuff...

Selling something on ebay is fine.

Keeping something to sell on ebay and not getting around to it is hoarderish.

Having something fail to sell on ebay and not subsequently doing something else with it is hoarderish.

Anyway, we can't be perfect all of the time.

One way to help your sister perhaps is rather than just confess here, but to confess to her as well?
I do, but as she and her OH come and stay with us, she has regular full view of my clutter!!!
  • :o failing to keep up with thread.

Got rid of a HUGE box of yarn to someone who makes baby blankets.

Bought a Lakeland order, but did limit it quite well.

Epic fail on Amazon when feeling v low.

I can feel myself slipping, all I think I can do at the moment is try and not add. I had been doing well. Hating the weather and it isn't even that bad here. I think we are possibly in one of the least affected areas of the country.

    hugs to all.

  • It is also hoarderish to consider asking if those with '80s MLP stuff would be willing to sell... :o I had a huge collection as a child and kept a couple of them, my DD has them now and she adores them. So much better made than the new ones...

You are not alone! Pay day (and pms!) was yesterday and out went about £70 on Amazon as soon as I got in. Then I felt embarressed and cancelled about £20 worth.
Does anyone else find that you spend the last 2 weeks before pay day thinking about what you will get when you get paid. Blow most of it in the week of pay day and then start the cycle again?! I have decided that I am going to try cash only this month in an attempt to not spend it all without realising on plastic. This could be interesting!
