Great reading today. I followed the meet-up thread out of curiosity and found the OS Badge Discussion... (a nappy pin)..
I laughed myself silly for five minutes, all on postings some 7 years old.
I revisited a shelf of bits for tutoring that I would have said I'd sorted out not that long ago. A massive armful of scrap paper went in the bin. I kept back a couple of printable activities the DGC might like, but that was literally a hundredth of what went out.
I have other shelves to visit again, so that could prove interesting. When I had the first sort out, so much went out that I could barely move the recycling bin.
JoJo, I'm a Maths tutor, you may find an A/S course easier than you think, especially if you did GCSE / O Levels more than 25 years ago.
There are loads of free resources online - have a look at the BBC's Bitesize Learning GCSE site before you go down the books route. If you do want books, I can recommend some.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
Thank you pitlanepiglet. I liked what you wrote about your nan - mine was very much the same. So calm and wise. She gave me my inner strength to cope with everything that life throws at me. Life with nan wasnt perfect, not by a long shot. I looked too much like my mother and it made it very difficult for my nan. She never grieved for her daughter, partly just being too busy dealing with me an my brothers, and partly because her daughter wasnt gone as i was there reminding her every second of the day! As for the funeral - i was sent to school that day but nobody considered the position of my classroom and i was actually able to see the graveside bit of the funeral from my classroom window:eek: Luckily i was rather oblivious and it was only months later that i realised what i had been looking at!0

If you laughed at the thread, you should organise a local OS meet as you'll so enjoy having a laugh with like-minded people
Anyway, it turns out nappy pins are practical objects (who knew?) and since fishing one out to wear I now use it to stop my mobile phone being pickpocketed when in crowds
My decluttering - I wanted to get to the stage where I was less embarrassed about the hoard and could get help in - I think I need external help now as the churning is not just physical, it is in my head too, needs a fresh pair of eyes. My corners are clean, my house is clean (always was more or less, I just used to move it all and put it back again) but I have ... so ... much ... stuff _pale_
I even looked at the bags of shredded paper today and thought "why not go for a quick win and just bin them this time then go back to composting the next lot when the composter level is lower" and then flipped to fantasing about making papier mache - stop, brain, stop doing this!
I've actually done a couple of v difficult admin jobs over the last 2 days that I'd put off for yonks and tried to avoid but I can't see it as a victory as I am just beating myself up about all the others I need to do/can't conquerYou never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow0 -
Hi everyone
It's my daughter's 2nd birthday today so feeling in a happy happy mood. She's at nursery this morning so I'm taking advantage of my good vibes and doing a bit of decluttering. My counsellor told me I need to do it when I feel secure and happy so strange as it is, I think this is a good time. Riding the wave so to speak.
At some point I need to tackle the boxes of baby clothes. I've got so many I must sell some but kind of afraid to open them as I know I'll instantly get re-attached to them. Today definitely isn't the day for that, but it will be a mammoth job I've been putting off for a long time. The next NCT sale is in March so it must be done for then.
Hope everybody has a good day."Why, this is hell, nor am I out of it."0 -

[Sigh. I really wish he'd speak to me instead of bellowing at me the whole nine foot distance from the kitchen to the sofa. And give me the chance to answer] Yes?
'We're out of cheese'
OK, I'll get some when we need it again.
'But we're out of it now. And eggs.'
Did you want a cheese omelette for dinner?
'No. We're having chicken, aren't we?'
That's right.
'But what if you want to put some cheese on your dinner?'
I won't.
'But what if you did?'
I don't. And if I did, I would just have to go without.
'I can go and get some cheese so you don't have to go without it'
I don't want any cheese. Do you?
'No. What if you get hungry later? You won't be able to have cheese on toast'
I'd have a ham sandwich instead, then.
'If I got cheese, you could have a cheese and ham sandwich'
I don't want a cheese and ham sandwich. Stop worrying about it.
'I'll make you Welsh Rarebit then. But we haven't got any eggs.'
I don't want eggs. Or Welsh Rarebit.
'That means I can't make you any eggs if you get hungry'
The world's not going to end. The shop is just round the corner, if I suddenly decide I must have eggs and cheese, we can go round and buy them. But we don't need them right now.
'Oh. Did you know you've only got two pints of milk in the fridge?'
[and breathe] How much milk do I have in tea?
'Ummm. I just wave the carton at the cup from the fridge and that seems to do you.'
Do you think I will need more milk within the next five days?
[silence]
'I could get you some more milk when I go out to get you some eggs and cheese.'
:wall:
There should be a novel from this conversation. Please!‘Keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole.’ David Lynch.

Another LBM
I went into garage of doom yesterday and looked in the scary boxes. Scary because i do not know what emotion will be raised from the items there. I took a tip off here and decided to select 13 items (? off the declutter thread?) I selected my DS old birthday cards
I lightly said to ds17 'permission to throw these cards away' He looked at me like i was mad and said 'i was 10 why would i keep them?'.
I realised these and many items have been in boxes in there for 7 years, previous to that they were in storage for a month and prior to that were in out last house garage.
I have looked at the remaining boxes and can see the madness of it!0
