I honestly don't think that I could put something away without ironing it. I really don't. It sends me into a sort of spin - it's not possible! I have no idea why - but I shall think about it!
I love this thread and its predecessor for that sort of nudge.
I am working out what to do about a huge box of tape cassettes - you know with music on that you play in a cassette player. I don't think we have a working player in the house and we certainly haven't listened to these in around ten years. I am fighting the impulse to look through them. I want to just tip them into a bin bag and throw out, but what if I regret it? And shouldn't I speak to OH? And I could knit some extremely strong, extremely inflammable bags from the tape. I am working on this one.

WHITEWING......I'm not quite that crazy......yet! Although, admittedly quite a few kids things have been half ironed before I see a stain that has not been removed and end up binning it!No more unnecessary toiletries Feb 2014 INS: 24 UU: 13. Mar 2014. INS: lost count, naughty step for me! UU: 80 -
sybil, chuck the blooming tapes out. You can't listen to them. Chuck them. Chuck them, chuck them.
I can't remember the last time I saw a tape like that but I can remember that it was part of an agonising declutter. What songs are there that you can't buy on CD if you wanted anyway?:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. The selling of the collectables is very slow in getting started, it's going out at a rate of 5 small widgets a week when there's a good 5000 widgets in one box, for example.
I'm a big fan of eBay, but it's not a quick way of getting rid of 'stuff', and in order to make a noticeable difference you have to spend quite a lot of time on it.
Maybe when going through the boxes, agree that maybe 5 of the nicest things can be kept for selling, with the rest going to the CS, skip, recycling etc.
Everytime I get rid of something, I always ask the question 'can it be eBayed'? If not, it goes out by another method. But if the answer is yes, I'll get it on Ebay asap, within a week at the latest.Early retired - 18th December 2014

In the last week I've thrown away a load of cassettes that I foud in the loft. They were ones that we had recorded various songs on to to play in the car. Needless to say both of our current cars only have CD players in
There are other cassettes in the loft which will go, as soon as I can find them, lol.Early retired - 18th December 2014

With ebayable stuff, if there is a lot and it's in your way, could you get a local ebaying business to sell it for you? They'd take their chunk of course, but they'd also deal with it and it would help them out as well as you.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. STOP
Just one tick, check there is nothing of value there.
We have a lot of tapes not available on cd, and some very rare and worth a lot pin jazz circles.
Most tapes are rubbish, it's true, but check if it's not mainstream stuff THEN chuck.0 -
I took a load more stuff to the CS's inclduing the garden chair and throw and my bedroom already looks better, but more importantly, I feel better. Before I would have just put up with the negative emotions I felt at seeing them. Took a couple of "valuable" items too, good quaulity pottery and glass.
I'm also organising my finances now as I have more room in my head, using a spending diary and checking my bank account daily.
Jo-Jo, I believe what you went/go through with your mother is abuse, even though it's because of mental issues, it doesn't stop it being abuse. I also believe any controlling with or without physical abuse, is abuse. Your mother sounds like mine in the way she preferred babies/young children but as we grew up and had opinions and thoughts which differed from hers, she would withdraw her love. She wasn;t physically abusive, although she did beat my brother once and had to be stopped by a friend...I think she contained it to a large degree and used words instead, she could annihilate a person in seconds.
Within my marriage I wasn't a hoarder, quite the opposite, but I can see being made to live in conditions that are not conducive as abuse also. Having said that, when in a marriage you find yourself conforming/subdueing your own needs and wants out of love. That however is not a good thing either.
I don't know how I would have coped if I'd lived with me in my current hoarderish phase. If you see what I mean. I know even when my place was a mess I couldn't bear my DD's place being a mess!!!0
