I also think that's a lovely idea for a birthday, BB.
It's my sister's b'day today (she's 250 miles away) and she was a bit sad on the phone last night as her best friend (since childhood) appears to have forgotten. The friend's family was much larger than ours, and perhaps they didn't 'do' birthdays, in the same way as our family did.
A LB moment in a kitchen cupboard where for years, stacking plates has been made awkward by a large, wide soup plate. It's now chipped too, it's never used as we prefer deep bowls.
It's in the bin and I'm wondering why I didn't do this years ago.
Other decluttering has slowed a little as there is less easy stuff to do and the big projects (bookcases going) will take some organisation. Generally though, the enormous amounts of junk mail I get (one of my biggest headaches) are barely touching the doormat before hitting the recycling bin.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I put dry clothes away, unpacked and restacked dishwasher and have started to sort clothes for washing (anyone else feel laundry can seem never-ending; we wear clothes twice if they're okay, apart from whites/underwear).
DS has tidied his floordrobe and is now trying to fix the kitchen door handle. He mended his PS3 last week using youtube tutorials and it has given him a big confidence boost to tackle other practical jobs. He has also packed away some of my work stuff.
DH cooked lunch and has gone to work. He was supposed to make beds and put a couple of clothes items away but I think he ran out of time. I may summon up the energy later.
Yesterday I got breathed on by lots of coughing, spluttering people during the course of the day. Can't complain though as it would have held things up if they'd cancelled due to illness. As long as I don't push myself too much I hope I will be resistant to the nasty bugs.
ETA: I just shredded some leftover promotional material from January. Didn't even know I had it.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
Bit the bullet and cleaned the girls room windows this afternoon. We have a problem with damp in their room so they were yucky with mould. I got out the bleach and felt just like one of the channel 4 OCD cleaners. I've put up new ( to them) curtains that go much better with the room and the old ones I've thrown by the front door. They are mildew stained and splashed from when one of my daughters helped with the decorating and dropped a pot of gloss paint on the floor. You wouldn't believe how far gloss paint can travel :0. So they are no good, but I'm having a bit of a wobble about letting them go. They could be so useful....... No, tomorrow morning they'll go into the recycling.
Then rinsing the cloth in the bathroom, I noticed how grubby the grout was, so I got out the bleach again and now I have a lovely sparkling bathroom. Also managed to declutter 3 empty shampoo bottles and a chrome shower shelf that has gone all rusty.

Hi all
Finally took my musicmagp!e parcel to the collection point (2 months after doing it online and putting the stuff in the box to go!)
My room of despair is very close to being a clear richard free room. This has taken at least 5 months of chipping away at it. I have also left it for weeks and then gone back to it with 'fresh eyes'. Some weeks I have only taken one item out of the room and dealt with it. Some of it has been hard, some of it has been getting my a$$ into gear. It has taken time, but it has been so worth it.
Please don't give up, if you've not been able to derichard due to illness, lack of time etc etc it doesn't matter. Chipping away a bit at a time whenever you are able is better than letting it fester. Please post your victories, however small, they are still victories.

No one around yet? Good morning to you all.
:hello: Right back atcha!!
I've been to the CSs and bought
2 'new' pairs of shoes (Jana Antishokk and Equity)
a lovely woolly jumper (Australian and as tough as one)
a couple of CDs (yep, a fine collection of 3 CDs now! :rotfl: )
and a pair of Next trousers.
I've decluttered
a weird, thick, gold coloured cardigan which never looked right
a long, black, loose fitting top which I used to wear to work but it's too Grim Reaper-ish to wear around wards of sick patients
another black top which I'm sick of ironing
a brown jacket which is huge around the shoulders and looks ridiculous on me
and a scoop necked black blouse which doesn't flatter me in the slightest.
I've got three letters to write and a load of filing to do as well.
Busy busy busy! Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0 -
About to go and declutter my shoes. I have around 40 pairs in boxes so I may be some time.0

Had a bit of a declutter of my front yard today in between the showers. There was the remains of the cowl from my chimney which the nice fireman took down after it caused a chimney fire:eek: last year, all broken and looking quite frankly a mess. So that is cleared up and also picked up bits of litter that had floated in and did a bit of weeding and moved the (6!!) buckets that I had acquired that might be good to grow things in:o. I still have the buckets but they are no longer an eyesore discarded in my front yard (they are disgracing my backyard instead:o).
Not done much inside, but now have an actual vision of how my dining room could look without all the carp in it!! Could be quite nice really:o.Official DFW nerd - 282 'Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts'

I have been tackling the lounge of doom where DD seems to have set up camp. But part of the problem was no shelf space for some of her books so I have been through the PS2 games, PC games, WII games and sorted discs without boxes, boxes without discs, separated a pile of never to be used again (if the kids agree) and this last group will go to the charity shop. Music Magpie are only offering 20 or 30 pence for only a few of the items so the whole lot can go to charity who may get more for them.
THis has free'd up space to put some of her stuff and the room got cleaned in the process :TI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
House is tidy and clean, although not quite (nowhere near, in fact) up to OCD cleaner standard.
I have decluttered a decorated glass that didn't survive the dishwasher. This has freed up space in the cupboard that I can put DH's CDs as he likes to listen to music when cooking. If I can rearrange the cook books, I could free up space for the CD player too. I hate having it out on the side when we're not cooking, seems unhygienic.
There's not much recycling but it's ready to go anyway. I also put a few of those charity plastic bags in that had been hiding under other stuff in the hall.
The last couple of weeks has shown me that we are really reaping the benefits of having decluttered in how much more we are achieving in a day in general housework/keeping on top of things.
My thinking is clearer now too on business and personal stuff as there is less distraction because I don't come across other stuff now when doing a task.
All very, very good. We've had some sunshine here too.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0
