Hoarding - A New Start

I'm in a bit of a turmoil at the moment........after receiving a phone call from my sister to say Mum has died.
After the initial shock, its dawned on me that the two of us are going to have to empty her 2 bed bungalow, garage and shed. No idea how we're going to find room for the things we cant possibly get rid of - as both our houses already seem packed solid! Looks like I'll have to try and do some ruthless dehoarding here in the next few weeks.
Oh Pudsey, what an awful shock for you. Sincerest condolences on the loss of your Mum. Huge hugs.
Nothing will seem real for a while. I am so sorry for your troubles.
You can always put your Mum's stuff into storage for a time, then think about what you want to keep. Wishing you and your sister strength and comfort.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -

Oh Pudsey, condolences.
The sad thing is a lot of dealing with 'stuff' is at times we feel emotional or stressed or insecure..

((((Pudsey)))) so sorry to hear that you Mum has passed away.
I talk to people most weeks who have to tell us that their relative (our tenant) has passed away and they need to give up their house or flat. It's upsetting to have to clear a home at the best of times but to do it to hand it back to the landlord is even harder than to have to clear ahead or organising a sale, when you have more time.
Please be gentle with yourself and your sister, too.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

So so sorry for your loss - the belongings will be the last thing you want to think about for a while so I hope you are not under pressure to empty her bungalow quickly, esp if you have to wait for probate
I found it best to put my mum's version of something with my own and see which I preferred, in fact I am still doing it now. Once the item was out of the context of her house I could see it more clearly. A friend whose mum died at the same time had her house emptied by clearance people (before applying for probate!) and moved on, but that just wasn't my way and I don't think it sounds like yours eitherYou never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow0 -

Sorry to hear that, Pudsey.
I've bagged up a whole bin bag full of clothes that are too big, too small, don't look right or I just don't see being in fashion if I lose anymore weight. Usually, I would bin them. But I see there's a cash for clothes place a couple of miles away. I wonder if they'd be worth visiting? Anyone?
What sort of size walk in are we talking about, LIR?I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
