I have a wooden elephant to add to the menagerie
My FIL (on the rare occasion when he gets us something for birthdays/xmas etc) has a tendency to buy us random rubbish, hence the elephant which sits sad and alone on a dresser. My OH may not be a hoarder but he never lets me get shot of any of the useless tat his family buy us. It's frustrating when he's so blase about my belongings or gifts from my family.
Finding things hard here, I seem to have gone backwards. Was poorly last week (better now) and work is keeping me rushed off my feet. Little DD is going through a difficult phase and being constantly beligerant. Still doing the 40 bags in 40 days challenge but falling behind on that too and it seems to have resulted in piles of bags instead of just piles. But will persevere.
I'm also a nester, and slap bang in the middle of a 'nesting phase' right now due to personal things going on. There are times when it's a real problem.
Big hugs and clear rooms to all."Why, this is hell, nor am I out of it."0 -
Aww, sorry that happened fpcat
I can't find some things either, and think may have done something similar. May make it easier to let go if have no idea what it was.....
Giraffe delighted 3 wee boys last night, so may have to let go. Giraffe was also lugged back on plane from Africa in 2004.
Feel safer with stuff when stressed and wanting to hide. Empty spaces still scare me.0 -
aw thanks metalsawn, appreciated
I am a nester too (why didn't I know this?)
And I can throw a couple of wooden impala into the game reserve, from Africa circa 1960
Does anyone else LOOOVE Easter - the little decorations (fluffy chenille chicks/decorated hard boiled eggs etc) are so disposable and there is so much less pressure than at Christmas (and plenty of chocolate)
I have a shoebox of Easter things but may just CS a few (egg shapoed soap tins etc) so they have time to sell themYou never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow0 -
PS has anyone got a giant Spanish straw donkey - just wondered! You never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow0

Decluttering - have sold parts of a dinner service on ebay today and keep finding stuff to put up at 99p which is ticking over nicely, lots of packages going out of the house! Not fussed about the amount I'm getting for them really, it's just moving them out quicker than I could get them to the CS as those bags seem to loiter with malicious intent and then unpack themselves. And as it's all small things I can pop them in a jiffy bag and walk them to the post box and they're gone for good.
I keep finding things to put up at 99p as well, it's like an endless supply of little things. And the weird thing is they keep selling too ! I suppose I'll run out at some point, but at the moment there always seems to be something that I find that is saleable.
I can add to the wooden animal herd !
My mum and dad had lots of wooden animals. When I had the house cleared I just kept a couple of favourites. A 1960's crocodile and a 1990's zebra. We had bought the zebra as a present for my mum and dad, from the animal Kingdom at Disneyword Florida, although it was made in Africa.
These two wooden animals are kept in the study/office/computer room, and are looking at me now.
I dont have a giant Spanish straw donkey though! (I'd quite like one :rotfl:)
Tomorrow I intend to get up into the loft to bring down some boxes for review, including the remaining things from my parents house.
So expect some postings from me as I think out loud about what can go and what will stay!Early retired - 18th December 2014

I looked at my dressing table earlier and thought "Why is that covered in kipple?" It's been like that for years but it was like I'd only just seen it.
It now has Mum's wicker basket with the small collection of soft toys the kids have given me peeping out, a ceramic head DS made for GCSE Art acting as a hat block, with selection of hats on it and a sun/moon/stars box that is useful for odd bits of jewellery/kipple. It looks clean, clear and decorative.
Odd socks awaiting matching have gone in the drawer, stationery stuff in the stationery drawer, my hand weights are with my resistance bands, and a large perfume coffret has had the four tiny bottles inside it put with the others in a lightproof storage box. One bottle has made it downstairs with me (Dior, J'Adore) and has been put where I won't forget to use it.
My DB and DSiL went through a long phase of buying me very good perfume coffrets and in the spirit of Pink Rose Candle Philosophy, (see my signature) it's high time they were used.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
One habit I am working on is that when I feel down/upset/ insecure etc, I sort of build a nest around myself. I mean literally a nest of papers, books , post, knitting , plates jumpers, scarves and misc stuff all around my seat on the sofa. At it's worst my lovely hubby joked that he could only see my head and worried that he would have to dig me out. Now I know what triggers it I am doing better and also use it as a pointer to tell if I'm starting to get stressed and then do something positive to address it.
Anyone else do this?
I do this. At the moment next to me is some money off coupons that I won't use, 4 easter notelets I was sent by a charity, my camera, nail buffer, pen and cup of tea. The other side is my today's post I haven't yet sorted, my camera lead and my earphones.
I know I won't use the notelets. My camera and lead allegedly live in the 2nd drawer of the dresser and my earphones live (where do you put earphones for a laptop when you're not using them?
Nail buffer and pen could go in my bag but I might need them!0 -

I've been in a dark place for a few days, 2 lots of workmen didn't show up, fb buyer didn't show up twice (!) and freecycle recipient didn't show up for an item that cost over £500 - oh and had my fist npb on eby a couple of weeks ago and someone trashed my feedback over one item in a 3 for 99p purchase, so for the sake of 33p! (they were wrong but because it was such a low value sale I hadn't kept a photo) - ho hum
((hugs)) hope you're feeling brighter soon xx0 -
We have a stone fish which is meant to have water spouting out of its mouth (in a fish pond) but it's holding down papers by the french door. On the inside :rotfl:
And on the sofa a dog shaped remote control/drink holder which falls on the floor as soon as you put anything in the pocket so is useless but we keep it for some strange reason.0
