Hoarding - A New Start

Well, we have FINALLY finished painting, phew. Dh is dismantling the scaffold tower and taking it out, and we have brought in the desk and a chair for the room.
We are not having the floor done yet, too expensive, but I think we have a big rug under the stairs (I cannot think where else it would be) that is better than nothing. When it's finished it's stint in the study it will be done (it has a highlighter stain in dayglo orange thanks to one of my neices) but for now it's as good as it will be, and a darn sight better than concrete!
We have two armchairs from the non resident parent whoch will go in there for the time being too (long term they will go in the room that is currently the dining room but is destined to be a sitting/music room).
I think we have even decided on the fabric for blinds, so I will try and get to see a sample book of that to check its as good in reality as on screen and then go for it.
I am having doubts about making the blinds myself now, (if we spend a lot on material it would be galling to male-chicken it up, and ... It's been a lopng time since I sewed anything at all, and while blinds are nice straight lines they are easy to get the measurements wrong. .....I seak from past experience.
Anyway. All that room will need in the future is:
Lights (we know what we want and can get ahead with it ASAP), flooring (we know what we want) bookcases (not sure about that yet, and out of price range ATM) and a lamp. (not to worried about this one) will probably be able to pick one up at tk max, change the plug for a lamp plug and ...done. And some pictures hung, but haven't decided where.
Tonight we will have an extra room in our house. Albeit a spartan one for a while. And, albeit still with books in boxes.
So hoarding oranisation question......I am loath to spend money twice, saving for the bookshelves seems right to me. But is it? Should I relaibly be buying some bookshelves I don't like to see us through? Even for ikea bookshelves in this amount it's a lot of shelving that will not be making us very happy!0 -
Good luck to those who need it. So many life changes. Sigh. We are all string enough to get through it and move UP not just on....right?0

I agree with saving up for bookcases that are both beautiful and functional. (Can't suggest what you should so in the meantime though, unless you want to post a photo).
I have been baking little cakes. Threw out the useful flour container and margarine tub as I had used all the contents. I am pleased wih the inspiration I had to use the chocolate nesquik powder in them. We don't like the chocolate milkshake as it doesn't seem to mix as well as the banana. Anyway, it seemed okay in the cake mixture so I hope it takes okay. The powder was given to us and somehow we seem to have acquired 3 tubs of the stuff so if anyone has any more suggestions they would be gratefully received.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Heehee....ok.....let's chat ...I'll pm you through the week! I just know you really want to be making beautiful garments. Comparitively blinds must be pretty dull!0 -
I love making roman blinds as I'm also addicted to numbers (hence doing accounts & payroll!) and there's tons of calculations involved in the blinds too.Making magic with fabricLight travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.0

For a start, it's normal to have ebbs and flows in life - sometimes people are lacking in energy, sometimes they are full of it.
Some were rather busy dealing with difficult stuff away from the computer, some were making their homes nicer, some were actually out enjoying themselves because they aren't so held back by the things anymore.
Sometimes it can be easy to hide in the laptop rather than do anything, so it's an avoidance strategy or displacement at times.
Lots of different reasons. And a natural lull in proceedings isn't a reason to discard the thread (in favour of something new and exciting perhaps? A bit like a new ......... when the person already has five ............s, for example?)
Give it a little while and things will be coming back up in energy - Spring is nearly here, after all.
And I, for one, can hardly wait.
I haven't been posting as much on this thread recently, but I'm still reading along.
I found that I had a big outpouring of postings, and I began to understand why I sometimes find it hard to let things go. I've been kind of inwardly digesting all these revelations about myself, and also been happily de-cluttering all the things that are to hand.
In a couple of weeks it'll be time to go up to the loft to bring down more things for sorting and decluttering.
That will include the 'Parent Boxes' , so I'm quite sure I'll be posting more often at that time, as I go through the items that I've stored, seeking peoples thoughts about feelings that come to the surface.
I'm keen to make a start on this before the spring gets underway, as I'll be spending more time on the garden when the weather gets better.
Incidently, I took on board all the comments abut the gold jewellery that I don't wear anymore and have no sentimental value.
I've decided to treat them as a commodity (i.e. gold) rather that items for decluttering. Therefore I'll be holding on to them, until a time I need cash, or if the price of gold really goes through the roof.Early retired - 18th December 2014

Thanks Florenceem, I may try chocolate yoghurt - I hadn't thought of that.
The cakes are actually lovely.
I made peanut butter myself once and it was lovely.
Do you reckon I could make my own version of nutella with it?:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0
