Hoarding - A New Start

Just popping to to suggest an alternative to Ebay or c. s.: do you have a small local auction house? If so, maybe you could box up some stuff and let them sell it for you (like with like preferably - for example, a box or two of crockery ...). It may not fetch very much at all, or may give you a nice surprise, you never know, but it can be a good way of raising a little bit of money and getting rid of one 'category' of hoard.0

Hi
Reporting back...made dinner an tommorrows lunch, managed to clean to work tops, well the bit that shows, still loads of stuff on there. I have put out of the cupboards lots of things that need using up but they have remained on the side for months. Definitely been making inroads but very slowly. Put teatowels in wmc and then on airer when done. Cleaned bathroom mirror and two shelves in cabinet. Threw out 2 lots of cleaner/toner that must have been bought over ten years ago. Hard as they cost a pretty penny, it makes me mad at myself for being so wasteful. Finished up a small bottle of hand cleanser by using it to clean the bath. It had gone to jelly in the bottom of the container. Bathroom now smells nice. Unpacked a toiletry xmas present and put stuff in bag. Will not keep this for best like I usually do, will use it up before next xmas. found a pot of what I thought was body butter, liberally smeared it over body only to find it was exfoliating scrub, so am now nice and clean. Night all.WL 11 st 5lb as at 050109. 160209 11st 2lb

Eww. They must have been more like germ soup.
But :T:T:T on everything you achieved today!I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -

I have that problem with things I've dragged out - lots of teapots/filter jugs on worktop but can't make the final push ... out... of ... the ... door
In fact the house started to drive me mad again but I realised its because it is mainly all out in the open now, corners are clear and cupboards have big gaps in, so today I will try to clear the extras out of put them into their final cupboard space
I freed up a lot of room by "recategorising" envelopes as "packaging" so they now live neatly with brwon paper, padded bags etc. They used to be spread among "stationery" so lived uncomfortably with pens that could blob on them or hole punches that snagged on them, or with "greetings cards" as spares where the card had gone but I'd kept the envelopes
And a sheet of nice wrapping paper that I never used, possibly because I coudln't bear to part with it, now lines the dresser floor so I will see it every dayYou never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow0 -
Byatt - big hugs!!!! Just keep yourself as safe as you can. If you can hang on by your finger nails, you can say that each time you get a little bit further, each time you slip back a little bit less. But even if you slip back loads you will still be a lovely, lovely person.
Blossomhill - I like the idea of the wrapping paper. However I expect the fourteen rolls of giftwrap that I bought on Boxing Day to be used by this time next year.
I have just managed to get rid of a load of fabric to someone who can use it. It's bits of sheeting etc, and it is someone who is starting up making craft things for sale and they can use it for scraps and bits.
I must have nearly fifty scarves that I have knitted in the expectation that I would sell them on ebay. I cannot see that happening at all. I think I shall do a hit and run to a charity shop that I normally avoid and dump them. Then I shall concentrate on fancy ones and just donate them as I go, it is a hobby for me. This means that I can get rid of a lot of yarn that I had put aside for scarves that I am not really keen on. I don't think, realistically, I would make enough from each scarf to cover postage and yarn. I am not sure that they would even cover postage, especially some of the fancy ones. I can still knit scarves for fun, and I will probably enjoy it more! It is hard writing off a huge chunk of stuff like that, but the sooner it is done, the sooner I have that space where they were.Ankh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0 -
I definitely think it is worth cleaning around piles on a regular basis initially. It helps you become familiar with the fact that it is not going to grow legs and walk out of the door by itself. And you may find that you pick up one or two bits as part of the cleaning process.
Isn't January a long month financially? I was okay doing a bit of a cut-down this month and a lot more juggling, but I have miscounted when the child benefit goes in.
I want DH to do an extra shift or two at work but he isn't keen because he's really tired. Think he's got January blues, lol. Went out for work on Saturday and there was warmth in the sun through the windscreen, which was great.
I am going to be working most of today and into the early evening. DH is putting the finishing touches to the latest decluttering. By 8pm, we should be pleased with what we've achieved. That's today's challenge, if anyone wants to join me and report back tonight on what you've done:

Have freed up a 6ft shelf and set of 3 letter trays in the office: letter trays are surplus to requirements:D Also separated out a bin's worth of rubbish and a bin worth of shredding.‘Keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole.’ David Lynch.

Oopsie, just bought more 'storage'
To be fair though it is for the kids rooms that are FINALLY mid-doing-up and are 'needed'.
Took a trip to ike4 this morning too (well its about 5mins drive from my house) to ponder over what we can do with the house/storage. Only came away with a couple of dish brushes though from there! No more unnecessary toiletries Feb 2014 INS: 24 UU: 13. Mar 2014. INS: lost count, naughty step for me! UU: 80 -
There's an important point to remember about Ikea - they are storage experts who store their own stuff in giant barns you can't find your way out of!You never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow0

Dilemma : my 5.5yr old loves peppa pig. She is getting a bit too old for new peppa pig stuff and the arrival of the bunk beds yesterday saw me removing her peppa pig border from her wall (she is now sharing with 6.5yr old sister who prev shared with the 7.5yr old) they now have a generic border with flowers and butterflies on
The dilemma is this: do I get together all her peppa stuff ie bedding, nightlight, cushion, blanket, wall canvasses and sell it all together or do I hang onto the stuff for a bit coz she still likes peppa even though I'm almost certain she won't use any of it again. My mind is telling me yes but my heart is saying no!
I sold my daughters peppa pig stiff, and she changed her mind - i had to buy it all again from ebay!!0
