Hoarding - A New Start

Hi Everyone,
Still on my journey of decluttering, as I get rid of things I have been selling some of my unwanted stuff on amazon and took a few bits to a local auction and I am planning to sell some things on ebay. however these are only a few items. If I put too much on ebay I find I get confused and muddled. I can only manage selling about 5 things at a time. However, the majority of my stuff goes straight to the dump or charity shop. However, if I am honest it sits in the boot of my car until I can get to the dump. I must try to take stuff straight to the dump and not let it sit there.
I use to have a paper shredder but it broke. I am going to get a new one as it makes it harder to get rid of paper despite my tearing it up.
I have made a menu plan for this week and planned all the evening meals and which cakes I will make for the family. It will help me save money and be more organized when I get home from work.
I am still managing to avoid the shops for myself. But did buy some half price DVD for the family for half price, as they were pre-owned from Blockbusters. Once we have watched them I may keep them or sell them on Amazon.0 -
The other bonus about shredding old paperwork is that you don't spent hours (or days) trying to find something that you know you've got somewhere....
If you're on top of things and you've cleared the old boxes of stuff, then you know what you've got and what you haven't got so spend much less time looking for things.Piglet

For paperwork I find it helps to be consistent (ok strict)
so for example my file labels now say
House (includes buildings insurance & UPVC window guarantee)
car (includes AA breakdown insurance & car insurance)
pets (includes insurance)
Health (includes life insurance)
Employment (includes National Insurance)
so I don't need an insurance file
OR have an insurance file and none of the other files include insurance paperwork
I was spanning both methods so it was no wonder it was hard to file things
Each has a batch of historic papers at the back, in a bulldog clip, that I have decided to keep, with a bold note on top saying why it's kept and when to reviewYou never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow0 -
Blossomhill, just wanted to thank you publicly for your thoughtful and kind PM, because I want you and others to know what a difference something like that can make. I don't have anyone to nurture me which mostly is ok, but knowing someone has worried about me and taken the time to write, means such a lot, when I feel invisible. Such a simple thing with a huge impact. As a result, I started the washing up, put dough in the bread maker, and cooked myself a nice meal.

The biggest advantage of shredding is that you can't take anything back out of the bin.
You are quite right about 'remembered feelings', bh. That's all they are but I am in a grumpy mood. I have squashed my big pile of financial paperwork and id type things into one A4 box, which is good. But it will need looking at and organising again as I can't remember whether some of it has gone to the accountant or not.
I am making good overall progress, I must remember that. I really like the spaces that are clear around the house. We're not going to move house, but I do now feel that we could if we wanted to - it wouldn't be such an enormous logistical nightmare that I would have to wait until there was an even bigger negative consequence to not moving house. The less hoard there is, the easier it is to be positive, for me at least.
I am also glad I joined these threads before I managed to sort my photos/memory stuff. Because otherwise I would have tried - and failed - to scrapbook everything. Now it will make me think about how much physical space is realistic for both me and the children inheriting it. I would like them to keep some.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
Popping in to add my good wishes.
I saw a slogan today that said 'No-one can go back to yesterday and change the way things have been, but all of us can start today and make a new tomorrow.'
Keep going.0 -
