A few pics of Downtown Grand. Official opening very soon.
    Looks a dump
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

You're very unlikely to get a direct from Glasgow, unless Thomas Cook happen to have one. They did some random weeks last year, but they didn't have any when we were going (early September).

US Airways also fly via Philadelphia one stop, and Delta via Newark one stop. Their flights aren't released yet but should be in the next few weeks. Then you would have another 2 one stop options, plus of course BA would have some competition for those dates and it could possibly put the price down a little. Might be worth holding off to see.

We're hoping to do earlier Sept, and for 2 weeks. We may also do an open jaw into Phoenix and back out of Vegas with a hire car in the middle, will all depend on what deals come up at the time.

Good luck with finding something good :) Keep us posted.

Hey, been to Vegas 3 times now in the last 18 months. I absolutely LOVE the Vdara. I've stayed there twice now and it's just so convenient and I loved not having a casino and the nice quiet bar as and when we wanted a chilled drink after a night out

Plan ahead, prebuy tickets if you want to be in a club or eat dinner anywhere nice, try and stay close to where you'll be celebrating as odds are you'll be walking back, book your hotel early ...if it seems expensive now- rates will only go up, be prepared for crowds like you'd never believe.....and if you want to drink -take lots of money.

NYE in Vegas is not for the spontaneous ;)

Thanks, we booked hotel and flights in March so don't think we've done too badly on that front, it's tickets for the night itself that look the most likely to be a mine field!

Ditto, 4th stay for us at Easter, really do think it's a hidden gem. People turn it down because it's 'off strip' - which it really isn't , but happy for people to think that so it doesn't become over popular ;)

You could email the concierge at your hotel (and nearby ones) and ask them for advice on what is available (or coming on sale soon) for NYE.

What's the pool like? Does it get sun all day and have adequate sunloungers?

    Hi all

Not too long before Vegas now, 32 days, not that I am counting... :p Thank you all for tips and hints, but hoping for some help in suggestions. We are there for Thanksgiving, so does anyone know if most places do special dinners, or is it business as usual? Not something I had thought of, until receiving an email from a LV restaurant with a special Thanksgiving menu...We're off for Veronic Voices in the evening, so not looking for anything fancy or a full sit down meal.

Also, for the first time I have actually managed to save money on an existing hotel booking! After booking 3 nights at NYNY a long while back, with 2 tickets to the rollercoaster and $50 drinking credit, neither extras much of an appeal, it was booked as hubby really wants to stay there.

So when the offer of a shopping voucher to Crystals came up, and the rate being $28 less than our original booking, it was a bit difficult to ignore. So a 5 minute call, and the new promo code was applied! I know Crystals is not a cheap place mind, but the voucher will come in handy for something I had in mind already :)

we really like the pool, granted it's not huge though. the loungers are really comfy, we've never had a problem getting 2 together and there are plenty of umbrellas around should you want them.

it gets the sun all day I think, it does get busier later in the morning and over lunctime... but typically waking early, we're usually down there in good time.

the waitress service is really good, they usually come around with free frozen cocktail samples at some point too :) There's also an outside bar and seating, so you can just get a drink/food out there too.

there are cabanas (including spa treatment ones) and daybeds, as well as a separate jacuzzi pool (which anyone can use).

it's also quite nice as it's not really a family hotel, so you don't get loads of kids running around - it's quite adult (not in the european ppool sense!). they pipe background music around the loungers too, nothing too invasive, but makes for a good atmosphere.
