After reading horror stories with opodo i decided to go down the flight/hotel separate route.

Since its memorial weekend ive gone and booked a banker hotel. Hopefully in the next couple of months i can find an cheaper offer (Or closer to the time contact my casino host at TI and see if can blag a couple of comp rooms for the weekend :))

3 Nights booked direct with excalibur, 2 rooms.....$748 inc resort fee's (ouch!)

At least doing it direct its easy to cancel the booking if i find a better deal.

If you havent already then look out the refundable options here - generally the cheapest way to get these rooms witht he refund option...

Can anyone recommend any shows currently running in Vegas and the best place to get tickets?

Would 3 shows in 7 days be too much? Im thinking maybe, so i'm looking for 2 ideas!

Last month we did 3 shows in 3 days, so I wouldn't say its too much. All really depends on which shows you like and want to see - don't go to any for the sake of going but if there are 3 you want to see, go to all of them.

What is a banker hotel ?

When it comes to tight connections I'm inclined to be more laid back in the US airports than in Europe-Stie's Amsterdam adventure would have given me nightmares -yet I've done it myself in the US. I was on two seperate tickes LAS to JFK with Delta -then AA JFK LHR ...it was Rodeo weekend and I underestimated how busy LAS would be on the Sunday morning and got to the front of the queue with 55 mins to go ....and they refused to let me check in and rebooked me 2 hours later...meaning I missed my JFK LHR. When I arrived in JFK I went to the desk...and said I'd missed my connection "Oh no problem the next one is in 45 mins -here's your boarding card" One of the reasons I love AA :)

48hrs in, and no response from PARIS hotel about the best rate deal....
They state 72hrs anyway, so if no reply by 8pm tomorrow night, i'll know they are full of it, just like MGM prop's.......

Question is, do I get refund, then book through expressrooms.com (was quickrooms.com), which at £119 for 3 nights in May is pretty dam good!, or do I hold out for something else! hmmmmmmmmmmm
Only other hotels that show up similar prices or less to that are:
Luxor (don't mind staying there again)
    Excal
    Flamingo
Even Travelrepublic.co.uk have the Paris room for £126 (£7 more than expressroooms)

Think I just like testing the hotels on there best rate deals instead of where we stay ! :D:D

    ** update **
DOH!! just had a reply from PARIS hotel...
I sent the blank BRG form to them, not the completed one! doh!!!!!
    Major skool boy error!!!

Ha ha - more haste less speed ;)
No they won't refund you-if it goes through they will price match and reduce the cost of your TR rate. If they don't match -if it's a non refundable rate of course you can cancel and rebook with the cheaper 3rd party provider.....but remember you won't get any comps on your room rate that way.

You "bank" a booking ie a hotel you are happy to stay at, at a rate you are happy to pay - that is refundable. So you know you have something in the bank. Then if a better deal comes along you go for the new deal and cancel the one in the bank.

I think there is more flexibility with internal USA flights. We flew into Houston on BA and had booked our onward flight with UA. We were allowing for a long turnaround. Long queues for immigration at Houston and people asking what would happen if they missed their connection, stewards said the airlines are used to it and would put people on the next flight. Sods law and we get to check in with plenty of time so paid 75$ each to be put on the earlier flight.

(Don't know how their systems work as we paid to take the earlier flight, get to the gate and they were asking for volunteers to be paid $$ to take the later flight, so I don't really know why they let us move.)

  • BOOKED!

Here is what I went for in the end:

    Saturday 7th June:
    Heathrow-Seattle-Las Vegas (Delta)

Then 2 rooms for 7 nights in Monte Carlo (paid extra for Strip View rooms on a high floor)

    Saturday 14th June:
    Las Vegas-Seattle-Heathrow (Delta)

Total cost from lastminute.com (after 3% Quidco cashback) = £3054.34 which works out at £763.58 each

Given that they are Saturday flights, and at good convenient times (arrive at 6.21pm, depart at 3pm), and guaranteed Strip View rooms in Monte Carlo, I am happy with that.

Have previously stayed at MGM (twice), Tropicana and Vdara, so was looking to stay somewhere more mid-Strip this time, but having looked into Monte Carlo I became really keen on it. There is a free tram up to Bellagio, and it has a lazy river (loved the one at MGM!).
  • Hi, my first time posting on this thread.

Off to Vegas for my third trip, this time for NYE, arriving on 27 Dec in a group of 6, myself and husband staying at Signature and others are at Harrahs.

Anyone got any recommendations on NYE itself? We would ideally like a bar that has views over the strip that we can get tickets in advance for, options I've seen so far are Koi Ultra Lounge at PH, Ghost bar at Palms and Stratosphere, but thinking the last two might be a bit far to get too/back from so would prefer something within a fairly easy walking distance of both hotels.
  • This might be of use to people! Norwegian Air are starting a direct service between London Gatwick and LAX from July 2014. They fly twice a week in both directions, on Wednesday and Sunday. At the moment all return fares are coming out at £378.90 which is an utter bargain! Direct flights as well!
