The "advice" is usually that a basic room in a good hotel is better than a "good" room in a cheap hotel.

The linens, furnishings, etc are usually higher quality in the better hotels.
Which works usually everywhere except Caesars Palace where the basic room is in the Bedstains Tower.

Works tremendously at the Venetian where the basic room is one of the best rooms in a hotel that I have ever stayed in.

i have had an absolute nightmare since booking my flights, that'll teach me for not speaking to my boss before I did!

Fortunately the work trip clash is off, so we're back on for our dates :D

I am looking at hotels at the moment, we're flying into LAX and staying that night and the next before heading over to LV (if anyone has any recommendations for LA hotels please share, have car, will travel).

The LV stuff is now a case of go big or go home, we've decided as its the first trip then it'll be the strip - as long as its free to park up as we're going to have the car the whole time...so we've got a shortlist, primarily because these are the best offers we can extract from websites/lists/smartervegas....

The prices below are all in, including resort fee for the dates we're going, even with cashback and booked locally in £ I am pretty sure these prices can't be beat...especially the MGM suites seem crazy cheap...prices are for four nights, check in Monday to check out Friday (as we're off to the Grand Canyon and staying in a hotel up there on the Friday).

    MGM Grand
    Grand King - $483.84 - n/a
    Grand King Strip View - $501.76 - n/a
    Executive King Suite - $507.36 - 675sq
    Tower Spa Suite - $542.08 - 694sq

    Treasure Island
    Deluxe Room - $427 - 400sq
    Deluxe Strip View - $481 - 400sq
    Petite Suite - $642.76 - 630sq
    Tower Suite - $750.28 - 930sq

    Mirage
Resort King - $431.20 - 394sq (inc. $75 resort credit and view upgrade)

    Monte Carlo
Deluxe Room - $327.92 (inc. $50 resort credit)
High Floor Deluxe - $363.76 (inc. $50 resort credit)
Strip View Deluxe - $399.60 (inc. $50 resort credit)

    Signature @ MGM
    Deluxe - $457.85 -550sq
    One Bed Suite/Balcony - $592.25 - 950sq

So thoughts peeps?, currently the MGM is in the lead (as its a stonking deal for a suite I think...) - but don't want to miss out on something similar as an alternative...or with that MGM deal am I on the money?

    TIA

Thanks for this. I'm in the Flamingo 2nd week of September, in a Go Luxury with strip view.

Our first choices were Bellaggio, the Venetian & Caesar's Palace, but the way the cost worked out we could have had a bottom of the range room at either of those three, or a top of the range room at the Flamingo for the same money.

And I may be wrong, but I think I'd rather be in a really good room in an average hotel than in an average room in a really good hotel. Big fish/small pond and all that ...

Yes, I think I would prefer to do that too. :) These posh hotels like the Bellagio and the like have just never appealed to me. Apart from the Coitsa'd course, it's the terrace that appeals to me because of the excellent view.

Smallest room in the Venetian is a luxury suite of 650 sq. ft. (and parking is free).

The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

Its also $149 a night plus resort...$700+ which I just can't justify for four nights...(Ive got another 6 to pay for on the trip...Vegas is the cheapest place for a hotel!)

Stoneman - are you at the Platinum? We will be there 8-14th.

Only 1 week and 5 days to go....

We have totally gone off the idea of Zarkana. It would seem it has a snake part in it, not to my liking! I believe Zumanity also has snakes in it. We might consider seeing Ka. I'm seriously thinking about booking tickets for Terry Fator now, watched a video on youtube he looks really funny. Anyone seen this show?

What are peoples favourite casinos for playing in?
Our top is Bellagio just because there is a nice vibe and the drinks service (when it happens) is always top notch drinks. also lots of $10 B/J and craps.

Next is M resort, really nice place with tons of machines, something for everyone. Drink service can be poor but a beer at the bar is only $3 and a cocktail $6 so not worth getting in a tizz about. We head out there every Saturday to get away from the crowds.

The bar at the entrance to the Cosmo. Play minimum bet 25 cent on VP and try all of the weird and wonderful cocktails they do.

I will have to put PlanetHo next, not my fav but Tracy loves the machines there, they are like old friends to her. (even though they culled about 80% of wolfruns). The place is just to noisy for me. But last time we were there they had a new form of craps that you sat around a bubble that shot the dice up, I really liked that.

Encore is up there in the top 5. Quite quiet and plush, drinks are best we get anywhere.

Yes we arrive on the 10th. Will send you a nudge and arrange to meet in the bar during happy hour, hic!
We saw Terry Fator and didn't really rate him. He could have done so much more with the dummies. I was thinking if he won Americas got talent there mustn't have been any dancing dogs that year.
