  • In all likelihood the 0747 arrival would be sufficient if it got in on time, but if it was delayed at all then you might be in trouble! Is it a reliable service? I would probably go for the 0717 arrival just to be safe.

Hi all, I know that Groupon issues have been posted before but I cannot purchase my LV Groupon using either of my credit cards and it's winding me up!
I registered and added my card as suggested in an earlier post but got an error and email saying the transaction was unsuccessful and to please update the card information (which I've tried). I'm guessing it's because they are UK cards (with UK addresses). Anyone know a way around this? It's a bit of a bummer cos I need to do this in the next few hours as it runs oot.

I have a question about check in time for our flight in March. We are flying with Virgin from Manchester. The flight leaves at 09:45 and I'm wondering how much time to allow for check in. We usually get the train to the airport, as parking charges for six weeks are astronomical. We have a choice of two trains. One arrives at 07:17 and the other at 07:47.

In your opinion, would two hours be enough time for us to check in comfortably for the flight? I'm really not sure about this. The only other option is to travel the day before and stay in an hotel.

Airports usually recommend giving 3 hours for international, 2 hours for european, and 1 hour for domestic flights (i'm not sure why it makes a difference? presumably the size of plane and potential queue issues at checkin?) I'm guessing you know this tho so don't want to sound patronising!

What day of the week are you flying on, also, I presume its not the Easter bank holiday weekend?

I've minimal experience of both Virgin or Terminal 2 at Manchester I'm afraid (i'm more of a T1 / T3 guy :D ) however the only time we've had issues at Manchester is when its been a 'busy' day in general (ie. weekend before Christmas)

We use Manchester a lot and for peace of mind or circumstances out of our control (bad traffic, car breaking down or something equally as traumatic etc etc), we usually just book the £15 / £19 Man Airport Travelodge for the night before.... and we're only a 45 minute drive! :D (its just nice to get up and be there the next day for us... especially as we're not really 'morning' people)

Think the Travelodge taxi / van service to Terminals runs every 20 minutes and costs £7 for 2 people (or thereabouts)

Thanks for the replies rory and nvh. I use Manchester a lot too, but have never used Virgin before. T1/T3 are more my style too. If we were just on a short trip we would just drive down, but we are going for another long one.

Thanks for the Travelodge info. I might look in to that. I'm definitely not a morning person, and would have to be up at 3 am to get the train. If we got the train the day before, would we be able to use the shuttle service to get there from the station?

I've not done the train - assume it lands in / near a terminal?

The website says you can use it for Terminal pickups:
A shuttle bus service runs to and from the airport and railway station. The shuttle bus at this hotel operates between the hours of 4am until 12pm daily, every twenty minutes and this is booked at reception upon check in. There is also an evening shuttle bus from 3pm until Midnight from the Airport terminals or the train station, where there will be a freephone telephone located to call the hotel directly. The evening service does not have set times, it picks up as and when guests arrive.

    For one way travel the cost is:- 1 person £5.00, 2-3 people £7.00, 4 people £8.00, 5 people £10.00, 6 people £12.00, 7 people £14 and 8 people £16.00.

I dont want to be a doom-monger (i'll get a reputation ;) ) but wouldn't want to entirely rely on Mr.Bransen's trains behaving... mainly cos you don't have a get-out clause of comfortably catching a later train. I'm just thinking it could be very costly if you missed the flight (though I think Travel Insurance covers you, there's still hassle and no doubt it wouldn't cover enough!)

edit: just noticed my Travelodge quote states that the shuttle goes to and from the train station :D

The train station is between T1 and T2. From the station, you just go upstairs and take the overhead walkways to the terminal you need.

Mr Branson doesn't run the train we get from home to the airport. It's First Transpennine. Not that they are any better.

Thanks very much. I'm now booked in at Travelodge for the night of 20th March. It cost me £21(-4% quidco), so not bad at all. Now to get the train organised.

i'm with nvh - unless we had an evening flight, we'd stay somewhere nearby the night before, too many variables: weather, traffic, acts of god!

although it might not be the most MSE of methods, i think the peace of mind and relaxing start to the holiday makes it a value-for-money option :)

Try using Las Vegas (not your own town), Nevada as the state and a US postcode in the address fields
