BA switch theirs on as soon as you sit down but there are a couple of provisos. You have to use the headphones that BA supply and those in exit seats and bulkheads have to have them stowed for takeoff and landing.
More importantly those of us in the front of the plane have screens that extend, so we ALL have to stow ours during takeoff and landing, this is discrimination! The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0 -

I like this a lot...a few times I've been getting close to the end of a movie and had it shut off before the end...I knew going into it it might happen but it is still annoying.
Actually really enjoyed the IFE last trip and watched quite a lot more than I normally do...never got my tablet out at all...being on demand make a huge difference.
Will be interesting to see if the headphone restriction that stoneman mentions on BA will apply here too.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
" During taxi, take-off and landing, only headsets provided by Virgin Atlantic must be worn but once in the air, passengers are able to use their own headsets. "
Wonder what difference it makes ?
You can hear cabin crew messages either way.
Having the benefit of noise cancelling headphones makes a massive difference.0 -

Unless the idea that you use their headphones makes this slightly easier to monitor (assuming they are red, it would be a quick check to see if they have headphones on, and whether something red is plugged into the jack)
I'm clutching at straws0 -

full entertainment system comes on after the safety video, monitors in Upper, bulkheads and exit rows have to be stowed away for take off and landing, but you can still listen to audio0
