  • It's hard to see what's true and what's not. According to some sites unemployment costs the taxpayer £61billion a year, others say other £billions, one site says unemployment costs half the net cost of the whole NHS service!! The Internet eh? :)

tax credits, SSP, maternity pay... CB, all come from the welfare budget...

income support isnt considered unemployment... (as far as im aware?)
    just like carers allowace etc...

perhaps a FOI request to DWP would be able to answer a break down of where the budget is spent?

mind that wouldnt include tax credits /cb since thats HMRC ...

who/which dept would you send this request to?

You should claim. Your entitled. You get them sent 4 weekly
    - just printed the form - gotta get it signed by health professional (son got a checkup on tuesday so midwife will sort that for us...)

we eat plenty of fresh fruit/veg (our daughter doesnt like eating veg... so we make smoothies for her which she loves...- shes refuses to eat carrots, we tell her that its what she drinks etc... but licks the carrots / etc and wont touch it lol)

amazingly though, when her half bro comes (hes a gannit like me :P eats anything and everything :P) she will copy him and eat things she says "its nasty. yuck. dont like it" to when shes on her own.

she steals my fruit off me (if i sit down with an apple, and take a bite she will come and eat it...) - if you give her one, she doesnt like it... (3 yo's eh) [well, with the exception of bananas - everyone loves bananas :P

Would the government really kick up a fuss about a 3% minority? Is this based on JSA/ IS only or does it include tax credits, and housing council tax benefits (local authorities)

Living in Manchester, i'd say 75% of the people I know do not work so I find the 3% quite difficult to fathom. Interesting though, very!

i thought that local authorties claimed the hb/ctb back from the gov pot? and only the discretionary housing fund was paid by local councils...
  • I thought Income Support was what mothers with children under school age were eligible to claim, and students...as JSA requires them to actively seek work?

I'm not well-up on benefits and who gets what etc. My friend who claims has told me many times she is better off than I was working a 40hr week so I prefer not to know...It'd cause arguments! :)

I'm really not sure how it works. I'm pretty sure you're probably right though...the breakdown on Council Tax bill shows % for council, refuse, police, fire service..there isn't a % for footing the neighbours rental bill!

It's one of them...anger towards the claimants..not really fair. They don't name their price and then given it. It's offered on a plate. The incentive to work is taken away from them with prospects of having to move into cheaper housing, expensive childcare and employment at the moment is far from stable.

It's our government and I suppose it's all too easy for the bitter-working-skint people like myself to point the finger!

but then, i always have worked, even whilst i claimed jsa, i rarely got a payment as my earnings were almost at jsa rates...

the only reason i claimed jsa was because hb/ctb.

its not the gov so much as self respect... people think they are owed something...

i believed i was entitled to claim WTC whilst on SSP, but since my average hours at work for the last couple of weeks were below 24 due to being unable to do full shifts i didnt qualify for wtc any more (and have an overpayment for the qualifying period)

but then that lets me claim these fruit and veg coupons for 9.30 a week. not bad eh... - so i will put my claim in for the fruit n veg coupons.

if your "entitled" to something then why not claim it... but i have a problem with when people dont expect to do any work at all and get it ALL handed to them.

hell, i'd be happy with vouchers for use on food etc if i had to go on all benefits... the hb i get paid is paid to me... i believe this is wrong... hb should be payable to the landlord... however then the landlord would like a fixed amount for the rent paid every month... so if like myself only some of your rent is paid by council then the landlord would have irregular payments etc... (my rent is 625 a month, but council pay hb in 4weekly sums. - my landlord would get 112 from council 4 weekly, and then the rest from me monthly... - this makes it difficault to know if she is being paid regularly and the correct amount EASILY)...
so it is usually a good thing that HB goes to me then i pay 625 on the end of the month. but...

all the same, freedom to use money as you please... i dont think jsa etc should be able to be spent down the pub... its amazing how many people are down the pub using their benefits. much like smokers etc...

and the idea of council tax: why not get job seekers on the bin rounds... etc... hopefully lower the council tax bill then.

.You can't really call that working, a man with 2 households of children, got a babysitter on tap 24/7 (your partner) as she's not allowed to do/earn anything else apart from live off the benefits you claim.

Why not get your partner to look after your new 'families' children and your ex's children and you can work yourself silly day and night to keep them all, pay some decent maintenance and all your babymamas are happy.

Why not 'get' immigrants/asylum seekers/children who's fathers refuse to pay/pay JSA rate CM on the bin rounds, etc...hopefully lower the council tax bill (sarcasm)

I think you, Labrinyth and a few more want to keep your 'trying to be snooty remarks/suggestions' on what people should be made to do, to yourselves.

You have between you 4 or more households/sets of children, who are costing a mint in benefits but you both think as you do a few hours work a week you are not in that tarred category, you both keep harping on about.
  • That is surprising. Do you know where the rest goes? I presume it's not just disability benefits? I actually find it alarming how little money those who genuinely can't work through illness get given to survive. They have zero choice

I think you will find the majority goes to Pensioners. But hey it is much better for the government to stir up hate against the unemployed.

I am in the latest group they are targeting, the disabled. I am also a PWC fighting to get the CSA to get their act together.
