Hey - my hat off to you! You've been able to work, raise two kids from very young ages, no financial (likely no respite either) support from their dad, AND you have had to go through the gruelling day to day task of supporting your son with ASD - something which is too much in some cases for a married couple to deal with together! Hope that CSA get him for what they can - another system that needs a major overhaul to get the non compliant parents to do their bit financially, or, as another poster on here calls it pay the 'right to be absent fee'.

Food vouchers are already in place here. They are called Healthy Start vouchers and can only be used on Fruit and Veg. I think they are available if you have a child under 5 and its £3.10 per week. I think thats per child who is under 5 but dont quote me on it.

healthy start vouchers are only given to people on Income support/jsa ETC...

not if you work.. (and i think its for kids under 4?)

Do I qualify for Healthy Start?

baby-playing.pngYou qualify for Healthy Start if you’re at least 10 weeks pregnant or have a child under four years old and you or your family get:
    • Income Support, or
    • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance, or
    • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance, or
    • Child Tax Credit (but not Working Tax Credit unless your family is receiving Working Tax Credit run-on only*) and has an annual family income of £16,190 or less (2012/13).
You also qualify if you are under 18 and pregnant, even if you don’t get any of the above benefits or tax credits.
*Working Tax Credit run-on is the Working Tax Credit you receive in the 4 weeks immediately after you have stopped working for 16 hours or more per week.

    - thanks for mentioning this though... should mean i can claim these since i lost my WTC whilst im off work sick...

but : as far as i know, its only 3.10 total (no matter how many kids you have)...

Thats a really interesting article. Thanks for posting.
  • That is surprising. Do you know where the rest goes? I presume it's not just disability benefits? I actually find it alarming how little money those who genuinely can't work through illness get given to survive. They have zero choice
  • Would the government really kick up a fuss about a 3% minority? Is this based on JSA/ IS only or does it include tax credits, and housing council tax benefits (local authorities)

Living in Manchester, i'd say 75% of the people I know do not work so I find the 3% quite difficult to fathom. Interesting though, very!

The article states unemployment benefits so i assume JSA/IS.

I imagined so. We've got a population of about 46million adults, nearly 3 million unemployed so what's that- roughly 6% of adults unemployed... So if unemployed benefits only equate to 3% then something is definitely amiss there! Wonder if NHS etc is within this budget? Mind you, if tax credits ARE included, there are alot eligible plus Child Benefit for every child in the country! Definitely an eye opener for sure!! Alot of negative press etc? Scare mongering and scape-gloating perhaps!!
