So, since self-service tills have been introduced, has the cost of goods fallen or risen, and have the profits of the companies that use them fallen or risen?
The self service tills are, from a cost reduction perspective, a bit of smoke and mirrors. They still have to be staffed and we, as inexperienced till operators, are much slower at pinging our stuff through than a good till op would be. But, when we use them, we are doing something so it feels more efficient.0 -
To all the people who saying I need to include a covering letter when I applyed for Jobs well I just like to state that when I apply for jobs on the universal Jobmatch there is no where I can send a covering letter as well besides my cv so tell me everyone, how the hell am I supposed to do this? :mad:0

Make the covering letter the front page of your CV?0

i cannot believe the amount of people that are putting gay_guy down on here
i was in the same boat from middle of 2011 - towards the end of 2012 and i claimed JSA from the end of 2011. i hated having to sign on.
it's all very well saying there's something wrong if you are applying for loads of jobs a day and not been offered an interview at the very least, or by saying work in a pub/club supermarket. but have you been in that situation?
i was also applying for plenty of jobs a day and getting nowhere, or getting so close, but there was always someone better than myself i was using various CV's and covering letters (all to a high standard). I was also volunteering whilst i had no job (with my local police force). better than sitting on my !!!! doing nothing. must admit as well that most of companies found it very off putting, despite transferable skills that i had.
when i eventually job offered the job i am in now, within a week of been offered the job, i was offered 3 others as well.
keep your head up gay_guy. your break will come, and do not let some of these idiots get you down0 -

It gets me down everytime I apply for Jobs and don't get a single response from them at all, and some people on here giving me a hard time is not helping as well.
Since I last signed on the 21/12/2012, I have applyed for 18 Jobs, There has been no Jobs at all on christmas eve, Christmas day and boxing day ete.
I am trying my best to get into work and I don't need people on here giving me a hard time because I am not work shy, I hate been on the dole0 -
Yes, why is it that some people persist in the belief that anyone wanting a job can get one? There's a huge part of the "equation" that the job seeker isn't in control of: the decision of the potential employer whether to take him/her on. And with heavily taxpayer subsidised free labour available via Workfare, not to mention unpaid internships for graduates becoming the norm, it's becoming harder to join the paid workforce.0

So...David Cameron wants to "get behind anyone who wants to work hard and get on in life”.
I'm sure there are many people in our country who agree with this statement. I'm sure everyone really does want to work and enjoys getting up everyday with the sole purpose of working themselves into the ground, creating stress and anxiety in their own lives and the lives of those around them. I'm sure many of these people would also claim to have no religious beliefs either...to positively blame religion for so many of the world's problems and attribute war and killing to religious doctrine that has no place in modern society.
If you're one of these people who believes in hard work...but has no time for belief in God or religion of any kind...read on...and think again:

This blind belief in a work 'ethic' and what can almost be described as a mass psychosis as we all stagger to and from our jobs like zombies is, paradoxically, the very cause of the stresses and anxieties that then push people to rely on benefits. When they are exhausted, burnt-out and broken from running on the guilt trodden treadmill...they need help, financially and psychologically. The psychological help system is becoming non-existent. It seems Mr. Cameron is intent on inflicting the same fate on the financial system.0 -
I see that disabled people, since early December, can now be placed in a workfare job for an unlimited time. Is that the same for other unemployed people? If not, what happens after the work placement is completed? If one is not offered a job, do they just go back to languishing on the dole, or can people be sent out on unpaid job assignements indefinitely?
It's not just disabled people, anyone who is currently in receipt of the Work Related Action Group (WRAG) element of Employment Support Allowance can be mandated onto the WP, workfare placements are unlimited for people in this group, so in simple terms the DWP have determined that WRAG claimants have limited capability for work, and cannot be forced to take up or look for paid employment, but can be forced to undertake unlimited unpaid 'placements' supposedly within their capabilities, who actually decides this is a mystery, these 'placements' are meant to be with charitable organisations or community beneficial projects, but the DWP have not ruled out for-profit organisations.
Those able bodied JSA claimants that are mandated onto the WP undertake limited workfare placements, they are mandated onto the WP for a period of two years after which they return to the Job-centre to start the merry-go-round again.
The long term sick/disabled IMHO are being unfairly discriminated against with this odious piece of legislation.0 -
No-one has said that finding a job is easy. It isn't at all. It requires a lot of dedication and preparation, keeping your spirits up and constantly revaluating how you go about it.
However, in the end, no-one is going to do it for you, so if it doesn't happen, you need to take a good look at why it isn't and do something about it rather than coming up with excuses after excuses why it is everyone's fault. Saying that you can't provide a covering letter is a perfect exemple of what is nothing else but an excuse.
It's not about bashing those who are looking for work and believing they are not interested in working ever, it's about being realistic about prospects and putting every possible effort in the job for a chance of success at the end.0 -

And what if being "realistic about prospects" means you might have to acknowledge, depending on where you live in the UK (the Welsh valleys come to mind) that you may never work again? That could be a reality for a significant number of people, simply because there isn't enough work to go around.0
