Benefits changes from next year

Hey everyone,

I have already posted this on another fourm and Just want to see your views on this on here.

Right first of all I am sorry if this is not in the right forum

We all know that from next year they will be some huge changes from 2013 to benefits and here are a few things that will change:

1) Council Tax - It's been reported that people who are on JSA Will need to pay they tax out of they JSA, How on earth people going to survive regarding this? it's really stupid and I doubt any people will be able to afford food after they paid all the outgoings

2) Housing Benefit - I read somewhere that people under 25 will get they housing benefit cut, is this true? and also they will need to pay part rent if they got a spare bedroom that they don't use (This doesn't apply to me as I am 26 and I only live in a 1 bedroom flat)

3) Universal Credit - It's going to replace some benefits like: Jobseekers, Income Employment and Support Allowance, Child Tax Credits, Working Tax Credits and Housing Benefit.

4) Jobseekers - People who don't follow the JCP advicer and don't apply for all the Jobs they givin they could be tougher sanctions even up to 3 years!

I think that is it or have I missed anything?

To be honest I am dredding going into the new year, I can tell you now 2013 Is going to be a bleak and horrible year :(

Think positively 2013 will be a great year for you. When you get that new job or two and supporting yourself, even paying a bit back in tax too you will feel great and so pleased you were motivated to make it happen.

I cant see where you have posted it on here anywhere else so replying here

You mean a Benefit Cap? It's to stop people having a household income on benefits that makes them better off than in work.

Someone else did mention on here that they are going to have to pay part of their Council Tax but I really do not see how that will be possible.

How much is the benefit cap?

The level of the cap will be:
    • £500 a week for couples (with or without children living with them)
    • £500 a week for single parents whose children live with them
    • £350 a week for single adults who don’t have children, or whose children don’t live with them
(No mention of those ONLY on JSA and no housing benefit of course)
This does not effect me at all.

so you would be better off in work or separated a couple with children are going to be worse off

1, people on benefits will still get help with their council tax.

2, anyone in social housing who is reliant on benefits to pay their rent will only get enough cash to cover their needs, if you want more room then you pay for it yourself.

3, all the benefits rolled into 1 will make save money.

4, if you don't want to try and find a job then you can't have any cash, simples.

Can't see anything wrong with anything here tbh,
    Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.

I never knew there was going to be widespread job creation! How are all the unemployed people going to get jobs and get off benefits when jobs are being cut right left and centre and even shops are shutting?.

The tax payers of this country have to support the unemployed.Thats the way it is. What do you think will happen if not?. More shoplifting etc. When this happens the price of goods goes up as shops wont suffer a loss and who pays for this the consumer.
Thats they way it is Im afraid and when people are desperate, they resort to desperate measures.

The last time I checked my pay slip that aspect hasn't changed and won't be AFAIK!

I'm a tax payer and I would prefer my taxes to be better utilised i.e. if claiments are to receive benefits then I would prefer if they did some form of work to earn it - volunteering etc?

The £500 per includues the possibilty of housing benefit but of course I'd better off even after travel with £72 a week as I only cost the tax payer £71 a week. I am not a couple.

    2) I think it's 35, not 25.

The move from 25 to 35 happened a fair while ago. However, the govt are now considering scrapping LHA (and I assume HB?) altogether for those under 25. :o

Ah, but if you volunteered enough to actually earn your benefits, they'd want to stop paying you because you're not spending enough time looking for work ;)
