If I ate 2000 calories of cake rather than 2000 calories of vegetables I'm sure I would feel and look dreadful, gassy, fat, sick.

Not all calories are created equally quality-wise.

This is also 100% right! Fat is metabolized to fatty acids and triglycerides inside your body, so if you eat much fat the amount of fat compounds in your body will raise! Which is not good at all!

On youtube there is a lady called Freelea who is a raw vegan and mainly eats fruit and vegetables, she has lost 40lbs over the years and says that she eats around 4000 calories a day and doesn't do a vast amount of exercise.

This is not a big surprise to me though its not the easiest thing to do! You can get protein from fruits veggies (may i suppose that she also eats yoghurt/milk and nuts which are rich in protein)! With a proper diet schedule (many small dishes) along with some good work outs (no need for massive exercise - in my case it takes only 1-1.5 hr/week ) its evitable!

I followed Mimi Kirk, for a 70+ vegan with a toy boy its something to be said about eating raw food and juice.
If you eat the right food you never have to worry about counting a calorie again, if you need something to count the closest thing is the Slimming World diet but keep in mind the "what you put in your mouth" rule, make it as natural as you can and less chemically enhanced, your body doesn't like chemicals unless it has to have them to keep you alive.

There's all sort of rubbish and claims about dieting on the internet, mainly from people trying to make money out of faddy wonder cures, or from people who have read the wonder cures. Put fewer calories into your mouth than you need, you lose weight. If you aren't losing weight, you're eating too much, calories don't come from thin air.

She claims to eat 4000 calories but I am not sure that would be easy to do if you are a vegan who eats fruits and vegetables. You could get through that much eating cakes, chocolates, burgers etc but carrots, peas and apples? I don't believe her.

actually there are many ingredients that are so much rich in calories and a vegan can eat them! Nuts, bananas or peanut butter for example!! And don't forget the vegetable fats. If you eat 6 meals per day, you just need 670 cal/meal which is evitable, i suppose!

In my case its a piece of cake to eat 3000-3500 calories/day without eating meet

  • I can say I disagree with this eat less exercise more approach. I don't think it works for everyone, me included.

At the moment, I go to the gym 3 times a week. I work up a good sweat & over the last 6 weeks or so have included weights into my routine. I also walk my dog for an hour twice a day 7 days a week.

For the last 2 weeks I have been trying the eat little & often approach & I still haven't lost anything. I have pretty much cut out the carbs & if I have eaten any carbs, I have reduced the portions. Have included more veg, avoided the quorn & have been making my own bolognaise sauce. Also have been making a point of including more eggs in my diet too.

Am also drinking a lot more water then ever.

To be honest I'm starting to think that one shoe doesn't fit all & losing weight is a trial & error thing. I find it very depressing as I can't even lose lb a week. I was also really careful xmas & specifically asked people not to buy me chocolates or sweets. Didn't even have an xmas dinner or xmas pud.

Going to attempt to make smoothies tho' & class them as a meal to see if that helps.
