  • Oh dear, I was loaned a dvd boxset, which I really enjoyed, and I want to know what happens next - as my friend only has season one, I'm trying to track the next two seasons online. I found one copy on ebay for 99p (£2 postage), which is very reasonable, but I can't find season 2 anywhere for less than £20! I don't want to sign up for lovefi1m on the off-chance they'll send me the dvds soon enough. Is there anywhere I can do a one off rent from? Given that our local dvd shop probably won't have it/might have closed down.

It would be really useful to learn how to get our wants for less!

I find the 'dont go near the shops' approach works for me! Just done my supermarket shop as the desire to get home and chill on the sofa makes me do it quicker. I'm here with a large and well deserved glass of wine and I'm not moving except for the dinner OH is cooking and to refilll my glass. Happy weekend! X

Well I used to work in a petrol station, and we had to tell everyone it was customers only (except children, we don't mind children) so I still feel bad if I don't buy something! If it's a full on service station, that's fine, but the ones that are glorified petrol stations are a bit different.

Fair enough then - unfortunately I'm yet to encounter a petrol station round here where any of the staff are capable more of more than a grunt - seriously, even when you say 'hi there, pump # X please', 'here's my loyalty card', 'thank you very much' and smile the staff just look mutely at you. I know it might not be the worlds most exciting step on the corporate ladder but a little customer service wouldn't go amiss. Still, since they can't / don't talk, they don't bother telling you not to use the loo :) (and trust me, I wouldn't be using those toilets unless it was a matter of life or wet knickers )

kerri I think it's the perils of living in a small town, we always were friendly in case it gave us a bit of gossip... :rotfl: I can't stand the shops in the city I'm in now, where the shop assistants don't even stop their conversation while they serve you! I deliberately ask them an awkward question just to p*** them off...

My camera has developed a fault with its auto-focus and keeps cutting out now. Got a quote of £60 to fix it  I don't even think it's worth that much! Very annoying, as I've had it just over a year (55 weeks to be precise), so just outside warranty. I definitely need a camera, though I don't use them often. Dad said he'd replace it for me (he bought this one) but I feel bad if I make him... Decisions decisions....

N.b. I think that came out wrong - dad offered to replace, and I would feel bad if I let him... I'm going to look out for a repair shop who can fix for less than £30, and will also email the manufacturer to ask if they would agree a deal to repair it.

Not exactly true....Goods must be fit for purpose and I would definately expect a camera to last more than a single year.

Certainly worth a letter or two I think...dont you?

quick update on the car - herself had an attack of sensible and talked us out of the Alfa in favour of a less enticing Mazda with better fuel economy, a lower insurance group & cheaper tax.
