    Thanks Firewyrm

I did give up for 9 months 2 years ago. Stupidly started again. It wasn't nearly as hard as I thought it would be....er....well...except for the starting again bit that is!

I've had the odd one now and again, but never actually started smoking regularly. Actually, I found the taste to be quite horrible after abstaining for a number of weeks. Anyway, I hate feeling like a wally - so whenever I get the urge, I just tell myself not to be so stupid....seems to work for me.

There is a famous book by Allen Carr that I advise you to read if you havnt already. It brings up some very valid points about how the government encourages you to opt for NRT (nicotine replacement) rather than giving up entirely. If I didnt know better, I might think that they had a vested interest in keeping people hooked on the drug but cutting out the side-effects. Witness the tizzy they get into over e-cigs that are NRT in ever sense of the word, but dont attract VAT charges...

  • bah, need a new car as the insurance phoned yesterday to tell us the old one was a write-off. I'm not really going to grumble about that as we both walked away unmarked from the accident that totalled it, and it wasn't our fault so we should keep our no claims.

I'm just struggling with the need being for a replacement car but the want is for a shiny Alfa Romeo with a red leather interior. Oh how shallow I am. The worrying thing is that we've almost talked ourselves into it - it may be a little thirstier than some of the other options, and it will be an insurance group or five higher but the Alfas do fall squarely in the price range we're looking at.

Another sensible frugal wee box on wheels I couldn't care less about or a lovely Italian lifestyle statement?

Ouchie, did I miss this? Hope you're all OK (I know you said you walked away). After my accident, I was sore for weeks! Still have a lump on my hip!

I'm getting a little obsessed - I NEED a pay rise soon, it's all I can think about. I found out I'm underpaid as it is, and I'm getting so much responsibility now, they ought to be matching it!

Bought a few things in a service station today so I could use their loo while I was out on a site visit - much better than the alternative site welfare facilities, trust me! Still utterly frozen solid, for the second day running, so off to curl up in a cocoon for the night!

Well, after a new years financial spring cleaning, I've cancelled the dental insurance. I'm fanatical about dental hygiene so I figured that the £63 I was sending to Denplan was really silly when I could put £50 away in a savings account (not even miss it) and have £600 at the end of a year to pay for what little treatment we do each year. When you actually tot up the prices, two adult hygenist visits a year and two general checkups for 4 is well under £600 all told, so, there's around £300 savings this year alone.

Mildly ticked that Co-Op have put their energy prices up since I only started the switch yesterday, but on the upside, I get to harvest points with a bank account and a local shop - so, kind of makes sense.

Third car is on for a new owner just as soon as I can get it MOT'd. Was very surprised to find that 'webuyanycar' are offering £2400 for it. A local scrap yard only wanted to give me £460. So, MOT, spit and polish and off to sale she is. That'll be a welcome boost to our finances this year I think.

I dont know what is wrong with Natwest - I only have a few transactions in the running account and I still cant bloody well balance it against my paper calcualations! Urg! Must pay more attention....obviously, I'm slipping up somewhere because damned if I know where that £3.69 charge came from that doesnt seem to reconcile with my accounts.

I wouldn't have bothered purchasing anything - I'm forever scuttling into places to use their conveniences - I find usually a very apologetic face and crossed legs usually works wonders :D

i use Denplan and must admit that I much prefer the monthly payment to putting something away. My DM had really bad dental issues and I like the knowledge that should something come up, I'm covered. Thankfully i'm on a low band and the monthly costs pretty much even themselves out with what I'd have to pay for 2 x dental and hygiene visits a year anyway.

Just a wee word of warning with webuyanycar (sorry, I'm doom and gloom tonight) they are renowned for offering a decent price to hook people in and then offer much lower when they see the vehicle. My friend was offered about £900 for hers online, she was totally upfront about faults / dents etc etc and they wanted to give her £150 when she took it to them. Think she got about £450 in the end after standing her ground.

Anyway, on the need not want front, today I returned some towels I neither needed nor really wanted, am returning a cardigan tomorrow I want but doesn't really suit...and prob didn't NEED two sets of bedding on Achica this week....but my I WANTED them (so I ordered .... whoops! :o:o:o it was the 'only' £2 more for postage for the second set that got me).

Am still pondering the long weekend away that right now I both want and need.

Well I used to work in a petrol station, and we had to tell everyone it was customers only (except children, we don't mind children) so I still feel bad if I don't buy something! If it's a full on service station, that's fine, but the ones that are glorified petrol stations are a bit different.

    Its nearly the weekend :j

Had a horrible week, really feeling my SAD this week and work has not been easy either. Half term next week though- double :j :j
Due to a few things not going to plan we've still got food left this week, but carefully monitored so nothing's going to be wasted, just rolled over til next week. Combined with the loads of food in the freezer I think tomorrow might be the last big shop of the month so our first month of proper meal planning and careful shopping has cut our grocery bill by over half- triple :j. :j :j
hope everyone else's week has been better than mine and that your weekend is going to be as good ;)
